ADOPTION OF THE LAW ON RELIGION IS NECESSARY, SAYS PRESIDENT

President Eduard Shevardnadze considers that the adoption of the law on religion in Georgia will regulate relationships among all religions. The draft has been already prepared and needs elaboration in order to be introduced to the Parliament, President said in a radio interview today.

GEORGIA IS NOT GOING YET TO JOIN TO COMMON ECONOMICAL SPACE

President Eduard Shevardnadze in today’s radio interview and on the briefing as well, commented the agreement on creating common economical space, signed by the heads of Byelorussia, Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine on the summit of CIS in Yalta in September 19. Shevardnadze did not exclude productive cooperation with these four countries, but only if this agreement did not contradict the obligations of Georgia, including ones to WTO.

GEORGIAN PRESIDENT THANKFUL TO RUSSIAN PRESIDENT FOR HIS SUPPORT IN THE QUESTION OF ABKHAZIA AT THE CIS SUMMIT

President Eduard Shevardnadze said in a radio interview today that the CIS summit, held in Yalta on December 18-19, was “difficult” and there was a danger of a “strong demarche” by Georgia’s representatives. Georgia was reluctant to consider other questions and even could refuse to be a member of the organization unless the question of Abkhazia was included in the schedule (the Russian Foreign Minister suggested not to include it), says Shevardnadze.

TBILAVIAMSHENI PLANS TO LAUNCH ASSEMBLY OF TIGER JETS

The assembly of Tiger jets, four-seat passenger planes, will start next year, George Beridze, head of the public relations department of JSC Tbilaviamsheni (the Tbilisi aircraft factory) told Sarke. Beridze says the agreement on the project realization was concluded with American partners as part of the visit of Tbilaviamsheni’s director general Nodar Beridze to the US last week.
