    The issue on the increase of number of weekly flights between Tbilisi and Moscow was being discussed in the capital of Russia the other day. The Georgian delegation, at the negotiations with the Russian air company Aeroflot, represents Adeishvili, Minister of Transport and Communications and Zurab Perishvili, head of Civil Aviation Administration.

  2. FINANCE MINISTER RENEWS HIS STAND AGAINST BAR ON SCRAP METAL EXPORTS

    Motivating his stance at a government session today, the Finance Minster, Zurab Nogaideli referred to the necessity to regard economic factors. He remarked that the revenues from the scrap metal exported amounts $100 million and if the export was put under a ban a trade balance in the country would see an adequate decline, which in turn would lead to the devaluation of the national currency.

    The Finance Minister, Zurab Nogaideli and the Minister of Economics, Industry and Trade, Vano Chkhartishvili, stated their position on the parameters of the budget-2002 at a government session today. The draft of the budget was prepared and introduced to Parliament by the Finance Ministry.

    Chairman of the parliamentary Committee on Juridical Issues and Legality, Zurab Adeishvili held a press-conference today in support of the bill, prepared by the Justice Ministry. The bill “On Rules of Transferring Illegal and Unfounded Property to the State” was introduced to a government session on August 8 and faced opposition from a number of ministers.

  5. HEADS OF FINANCE MINISTER AND NATIONAL BANK CAN NOT COME TO TERMS

    Zurab Nogaideli, Finance Minister stated last week, that for budget problems the government would not repay its indebtedness towards the National Bank (NB). Moreover, in case they fail to get foreign aid (Georgia failed to implement range of terms and the World Bank postpones credit allocations) the government, according to Minister, would take an additional credit from NB.

    The Justice Minister, Michael Saakashvili, introduced the bill “On rules of Transferring Illegal and Unfounded Property to the State” to a government session today. The document applies to those officials who must introduce their property declarations.

  7. FINANCE MINISTER RECOGNIZED INEVITABILITY OF BUDGET CORRECTION

    According to the estimation of Finance Minister, they will have to reduce the state budget-2001 by 225 million Lari. This sum consists of 80 million, which the government does not expect from the privatization of the state property, and 145 million – credits of the World Bank (WB).

  12. MORATORIUM ANNOUNCED ON RAW TIMBER EXPORTS

    The decision to put timber exports under a ban until January 1, 2002 was adopted at an extraordinary session of Parliament today. The step aims to put under restraint timber clearance for exports, which has acquired a wide scale recently.

  13. SCARCE FINANCES NOT LET GEORGIAN GOVERNMENTAL DELEGATION CONDUCT WORKING VISIT TO MOSCOW

    A session of the Georgian governmental delegation and the Russian government, to be held on June 18-19, has been postponed for indefinite time. As Sarke was informed by the source at the State Office, Zurab Nogaideli, the Finance Minister, refused to allocate the necessary sum (no more than $3,000), motivating decision by financial difficulties.

  14. THE ARMY IS TO BE FINANCED FROM THE CENTRAL BUDGET, PRESIDENT STRESSED

    This month, the Finance Ministry has not financed the Batumi military garrison, charging Ajara to do that itself. David Tevzadze, the Defense Minister, after making a report at the government session today, demanded a political evaluation of this fact from President of Georgia.

    At the extraordinary session of Parliament MPs unanimously adopted a resolution concerning Russian’s failure to meet agreements of the OSCE summit, held in Istanbul, in 1999. The Foreign Ministry of Georgia has been charged to apply to the OSCE and other international organizations to support Georgia.

  16. FINANCE MINISTRY HAS DECIDED TO OPEN TREASURY FILIAL IN AJARA

    As Zurab Nogaideli, Finance Minister told Sarke, correspondent alterations have already entered in the provision on the State Treasury and only technical issues to be regulated. Minister has refrained from both specifying the precise date of the opening of the Treasury filial in Batumi and naming the candidates on the post of its head.

  17. FINANCE MINISTER FLATLY AGAINST BAN ON SCRAP METAL EXPORTS

    In accordance with recommendations of Leszek Balcerowicz, the Georgian government’s adviser on economic Issues (a well-known polish economist), the negotiations are to end by September 1, said Temur Basilia, President’s aide on economic reform, at the government session on July 11. Zurab Nogaideli, the Finance Minister, however, asked to shift the date to September 15.

  20. MINIMUM WAGE RISE RATE HAS YET TO BE SOLVED

    The Ministry of Health, Social Security and Labor offers two versions of a minimum wage raise – either up to 35 Lari or 60 Lari. In the first case, additional 4 million Lari a month is to be envisaged in the budget, in the second – up to 7 million.
