    COURT FOUND TWO MINISTERS OF PREVIOUS GOVERNMENT GUILTY OF ILLEGAL SEIZURE OF “AKURA” WINERY

    Tbilisi city court declared about completion of consideration of the case, filed because of illegal seizure of Akura winery. The court “found guilty Georgia’s former security minister Ivane Merabishvili and Georgia’s former prosecutor general Zurab Adeishvili of misuse of powers”.

    ANNUAL INFLATION IN APRIL MADE UP 6.1%

    Sakstat reported that annual inflation in April made up 6.1%. In comparison with the previous month (i.e. March), inflation made up 0.1%.


    NBG URGES ORGANIZATIONS TO INFORM CONSUMERS ON STRUCTURE OF ATTRACTED CREDITS

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) released the statement today, urging organizations “to observe requirements of the law during funds’ attraction and to make information related to structure of portfolio of attracted funds available to interested customers”.

    NBG also urges customers “to exercise caution during placement of own funds”.


    NBG: CLAIMS TOWARD COMMERCIAL BANKS HAVE GROWING TENDENCY, BUT NUMBER OF REASONABLE CLAIMS DECREASES

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared that claims, submitted to commercial banks in 2012-2016, have been characterized by growing tendency, however number of reasonable claims have been decreased.

    As NBG’s report for 2016 supposes, the mentioned “could be caused by existence of barriers in banks in regard of claims’ fixation (for example, refusal of fixation of claims by commercial bank)”.


    GYLA: MINISTRIES AND SELF-GOVERNING CITIES HAD AMBIGUOUS APPROACH TO CUT OF BUDGETARY COSTS

    Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) estimates that “the ministries and the self-governing cities had the ambiguous and differing approaches concerning priorities and volume of cut of budgetary funds”.

    It “was caused by the government’s lack of uniform vision”, notes the organization, which has conducted monitoring of execution by public agencies of Prime Minister’s initiative on cut of budgetary funds by 10% and staff optimization.


    REPRESENTATIVES OF 22 TURKISH AND UP TO 100 GEORGIAN COMPANIES TOOK PART IN BUSINESS FORUM IN TBILISI

    Today, Tbilisi hosted Georgian-Turkish business forum, which was organized by Georgian Employers Association and Turkish embassy.

    According to the Association, 22 Turkish companies and up to 100 Georgian ones took part in the forum.


    “SAKAERONAVIGATSIA”: TRAFFIC IN GEORGIA’S AIRSPACE IN Q1 INCREASED BY 15% Y-O-Y

    LLC Sakaeronavigatsia (Georgian Air Navigation) reported that usage of Georgia’s airspace in the 1st quarter has increased by 15% year-on-year.

    Within 4 months of the year, the company has served 41,914 planes that also exceeds by 15% the showing of the same period of 2016.


    ENERGY MINISTRY: GAS INSTALLATION IN 18 VILLAGES OF PANKISI GORGE IS COMPLETED

    Energy Ministry declared that gas installation in 18 villages of Pankisi Gorge (Kakheti region) is completed, total number of new consumers makes up 2,715.

    Works were funded from the state budget, and their actual cost made up 6.24 million lari, the Ministry said.

    ECONOMY MINISTRY: HOTEL TO BE BUILT IN TELAVI WITHIN “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” PROGRAM

    Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that within “Host in Georgia” component of “Produce in Georgia” state program, LLC Elgi builds hotel in Telavi (Kakheti region).

    With assistance of the program, the company will be able to add 20 rooms to existing 31-room hotel Alazani Valley, the Ministry said.

    AGRICULTURAL UNIVERSITY TO HOST USAID/REAP-SUPPORTED CULINARY COMPETITION

    On May 5, Culinary Academy of Agricultural University will host culinary competition, being supported by USAID-funded project on restoration of efficiency of agricultural production (REAP).

    The event will be held within celebration of the 25th anniversary of the US-Georgia partnership and aims promotion of Georgian agricultural production, REAP stated.
