THE PARLIAMENT APPROVED LEGISLATIVE PACKAGE ON STRUCTURAL CHANGES IN THE GOVERNMENT

At the extraordinary meeting yesterday, the Parliament approved (in the 3^rd reading) legislative package on structural changes in the government with 86 votes pro.

To remind, according to one of the changes, the Energy Ministry and component of natural resources of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection merges with the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.




THE EU TO ASSIST GEORGIAN COMMUNICATION COMMISSION IN IMPROVEMENT OF REGULATORY BASE AND INSTITUTIONAL STRENGTHENING

National Communication Commission declared that with financing of the EU, twinning project (i.e. with participation of similar departments of the EU countries and Georgia) will be implemented, aiming perfection of regulating base in the sphere of electronic communications and institutional strengthening of the Commission. The opening ceremony of the project will take place in Tbilisi on December 12.

PARTNERSHIP FUND: CHINESE PARTY IS INTERESTED IN INVESTMENT IN GEORGIA’S SEWING INDUSTRY

Georgian Partnership Fund reported about visit to Georgia of joint delegation of the government and business circles of Gongqing, the city in Chinese province of Jiangxi.

As the Fund said, Chinese investors plan implementation of joint project with the Fund and launch in Georgia production of warmed jackets.




ISET POLICY INSTITUTE: INCOME OF AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES, SUPPORTED BY THE EU, GREW BY 27%, PROFIT – BY 30%

Policy Institute of International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET Policy Institute) declared that researches show growth of income of farmers in the EU-supported cooperatives by 27% and of profit – by 30%.

At that, production value per cooperative has also increased by 37% on average since 2014, while average value of assets used by the cooperatives – by 300%, the Institute note, adding that “it is too early to assess full impact”, though employment has doubled in many cooperatives.

ENERGY DISTRIBUTORS WORKED OUT 5-YEAR DEVELOPMENT PLANS

National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission declared that new regulation envisages working out by energy distribution companies of 5-year development plans.

At the public meeting today, the Commission agreed respective plans of TELASI (energy distributor of Tbilisi) and EnergoPro Georgia (regional energy distributor), calculated for 2018-2022.




“FITCH” ASSIGNED “BB” RATING TO “ENERGOPRO GEORGIA”

Fitch Ratings declared that it has assigned a final Long-Term Issuer Default Rating of “BB” with stable outlook to JSC EnergoPro Georgia. Thus, the agency confirmed its recent preliminary rating to this Georgian regional energy distributor.




FROM NEXT YEAR, NEW BROADCASTER TO START OPERATION

National Communication Commission reported that LLC TOK TV has passed authorization for general broadcasting. The broadcaster will start operation until March 1, 2018, the Commission said.

UNDP POINTS AT LOW ECONOMIC ACTIVITY OF WOMEN IN GEORGIA

Limited access to financial resources and lack of consistent state policy on economic strengthening of women are main reasons of low economic activity of women in Georgia.

That is indicated in research, conducted by Georgian non-governmental organization Sapari and supported by the UN Development Program (UNDP) and Sweden government, which results were published today.
