    DRAFT BILL “ON CANNABIS PLANT CONTROL” IS PUBLISHED

    Draft of the government-initiated bill “On Cannabis Plant Control”, accompanied by related draft bills, were published today on the web site of Georgian Parliament. The draft will be presented in the Parliament by Deputy Interior Minister Natia Mezvrishvili.


    “TI GEORGIA”: PRESUMABLE CASES OF HIGH-LEVEL CORRUPTION INDICATE NEED OF DRASTIC CHANGES IN ANTI-CORRUPTION SYSTEM

    TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, declares that response of investigative bodies to recent information on presumable cases of corruption was slow, opaque and inefficient. It indicates the need of reforming of anti-corruption system in Georgia, the organization concludes.


    COMMUNICATION COMMISSION CHAIRMAN: INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS HAVE TO BECOME INTERESTED ON WHAT LOCAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS USE THEIR FINANCIAL SUPPORT

    Chairman of Georgian National Communication Commission Kakha Bekauri urges international organizations to become interested on what the local non-governmental organizations, financed by them, use their support.

    Bekauri declared this at the news briefing today, while commenting on the interim report on pre-election monitoring of presidential elections of this year, published yesterday by International Society for Fair Elections and Democracy (ISFED).

    “FITCH RATINGS CIS” SENIOR DIRECTOR: THERE IS ALREADY MORE MODERATE GROWTH IN GEORGIA’S RETAIL BANKING SECTOR, BUT IT DOES NOT WORRY US

    Olga Ignatieva, senior director of Fitch Ratings CIS, comments recent trends in Georgian banking sector for Sarke.

    Sarke: In September, new crediting regulations entered in force in Georgia (in particular, upper limit for effective interest rate on credits is halved, limit is set for sanctions on overdue credits, restrictions are introduced on retail mortgage loans).


    NBG BOUGHT $5M

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) declared about purchase of $5 million on the currency auction today. Average weighted exchange rate made up 2.6160 GEL/USD.


    PRIME MINISTER: OUR TASK IS 3-TIME GROWTH OF PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS’ AVERAGE SALARY BY 2022

    “Our task is to increase average salary of teachers, occupied at public schools, 3 times by 2022”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze declared today, while presenting the government vision of education reform.

    At the presentation, which held in Ikalto abbey (the late 6th century), the Premier pointed that at the first stage, during 2018-2019 academic year, up to 10,000 teachers will receive the raised salary.


    FINANCE MINISTRY: SANITARY, VETERINARY AND PHYTOSANITARY CONTROL WILL BE IMPROVED ON GEORGIA-AZERBAIJAN BORDER WITH ASSISTANCE OF THE EU AND UNDP

    Georgian Finance Ministry declared about completion of 3-year project, which aimed raise of standards of sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary control on customs checkpoint “Red Bridge” on Georgia-Azerbaijan border.

    According to the Ministry, new customs point has area of 6,500 square m and is fully able to conduct sanitary, veterinary and phytosanitary control with observance of the EU standards.

    UNDP AND SWEDISH GOVERNMENT LAUNCH CAMPAIGN ON ECONOMIC STRENGTHENING OF WOMEN IN GEORGIA

    The second phase (2018-2019) of social campaign “We Need Equality” serves economic strengthening of women, Georgian representation of the UN Development Program (UNDP) reported.

    On September 13, symbolical performance was held in Tbilisi with assistance of UNDP and Embassy of Sweden, which displayed barriers existing on the way of economic strengthening of women.
