    LIBERALI: “HOW WE CONTROL IMPLEMENTATION OF ASSOCIATION AGREEMENT”

    March 2, 2017 - Ivane Chkhikvadze, manager of European integration direction at Open Society – Georgia Foundation, considers that the Parliament’s current mechanism of implementation monitoring of Georgia-EU Association Agreement is only minimally sufficient, He points that taking into account growth of undertaken liabilities, monitoring capabilities should be accordingly enhanced.

    Chkhikvadze estimates that monitoring of the Parliament of previous convocation was “the weakest”, “Committee hearing on Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) took place only once”, he points, noting that committee hearings should be held once in a quarter at least.

    March 1, 2017 - Lari started strengthening toward the US dollar after January 10 and as of February 28, has gained about 20 tetri (7.5%).

    As economist Beso Namchavadze notes, “Over the past 2.5 years, lari exchange rate has declining tendency, but there were slight strengthenings during this period”.

    As Interior Ministry said, the investigation established that the mentioned pawnshops had accepted various electronic devices and mobile phones without ownership certifying documents.

    REZONANSI: “WHAT ALTERNATIVE OF LARSI DID PREMIERS OF GEORGIA AND ARMENIA AGREED ON”

    February 28, 2017 - Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan, who paid official visit to Georgia on February 23-24, has declared in an interview upon his return to Armenia that fruitful negotiations were held in Georgia concerning alternative of Larsi checkpoint (the only legally operating one on Georgia-Russia border for now), the newspaper reports.

    The article points: “Despite Karapetyan did not specify what the mentioned alternative is, Armenian and Russian media are actively discussing already for several days after his statement that active negotiations are underway exactly on restoration of Armenian-Russian railway”,

    However, Georgia’s ruling team flatly denies consideration of this topic and declares that opposition is just speculating on this subject, the newspaper notes.

    THE FINANCIAL: “NEW PROSPECTS FOR GEORGIAN-ITALIAN TRADE RELATIONS”

    February 28, 2017 - On March 8, Rome will host Italy-Georgia business forum. According to Italian ambassador to Georgia Antonio Enrico Bartoli, over 60 Georgian companies have registered for participation, most part of which are engaged in construction, food and drink production, textile manufacturing and tourism.

    NETGAZETI.GE: “PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION INSPECTOR FINED COMPANY OF ONLINE CREDITS”

    March 2, 2017 - Personal Data Protection Inspector dedicated separate paragraph in the report for 2016 to issue of companies, issuing online credits and collecting bad debts.

    As the report states, quite a big part of applications, considered by Personal Data Protection Inspector in 2016, referred exactly to legitimacy of information handling by such companies.

    March 1, 2017 - Giorgi Kepuladze, head of Society and Banks, forecasts that big part of online and microfinance organizations will not be capable to withstand new regulations.

    “Intensive closure of microfinance companies is connected to those changes, which follow introduction of upper limit for effective interest rate”, Kepuladze specifies.

    February 27, 2017 - During last week, lari has strengthened against the US dollar by 5 tetri. The newspaper brings comments on the mentioned trend, made by executive director of Georgian Banks Association Giorgi Tsutskiridze and doctor of economics David Aslanishvili.
