    August 4, 2017 - Member of European Georgia Zurab Chiaberashvili declares that reduction of increased inflation is possible only through decrease of taxes.

    Chiaberashvili points that price increase is especially high in transport group – 12.6% that is “direct result of rise by Georgian Dream of excise on fuel”, which was transferred by chain to food also.


    REZONANSI: “MAYORS AND GAMGEBELIS COMPETE WITH EACH OTHER IN CAPTURE OF BONUSES AND SUPPLEMENTS”

    August 4, 2017 - President of Center of Economic Policy Experts, doctor of economics Irakli Makalatia considers inadmissible that officials constantly award themselves with salary supplements.

    “The state constantly speaks about need of regulations in private sector, whereas the most necessary and obligatory is strict regulation of public sector”, Makalatia specifies.

    Kutivadze says that in 2005, law “On Mail and Communication” was recognized invalid and “the Parliament was charged to adopt law “On Mail” within 6 months after entering in force of law “On Communications””.

    TABULA: “THE GOVERNMENT PURCHASED 194 PATROL CARS THROUGH, ALLEGEDLY, “AGREED” TENDER”

    August 3, 2017 - Referring to conclusion of State Audit Service, Tabula says that process of renewal of patrol car fleet was conducted in the country allegedly with financial violations.

    The matter concerns tenders, announced by the Interior Ministry’s Agency of Service in April 2014 (procurement of 160 patrol cars) and in August 2015 (procurement of 34 specialized cars).


    TABULA: “KOBA GVENETADZE: INFLATION GROWTH IS CAUSED BY RISE OF EXCISE ON FUEL AND TOBACCO”

    August 3, 2017 - President of National Bank of Georgia Koba Gvenetadze declared that “growth of inflation is caused mainly by one-time factors, in particular, price growth on fuel and tobacco products”.

    Inflation growth “is connected with rise of excise on these products and also with oil price growth on international market”, Gvenetadze explained, adding: “contribution of these products in inflation makes up 2.6 percentage points”.

    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: ““KAKHETI ENERGY DISTRIBUTION” ACQUIRED BY “ENERGOPRO GEORGIA””

    August 2, 2017 - Kakheti Energy Distribution is acquired by regional energy distributor EnergoPro Georgia, which will pay 21.7 million lari for the company, the newspaper reports. The winner was the only participant of the auction.


    KVIRIS PALITRA: “TARIFFS TO BE REVIEWED CONSTANTLY!”

    July 31, 2017 - Energy Minister Ilya Eloshvili declares that “gas tariffs will be reviewed for sure, but it cannot be said now, would it be in direction of growth or in direction of decrease”. The Minister said that after tariff in Tbilisi was increased by 0.5 tetri, the newspaper notes.

    August 4, 2017 - Tbilisi city court’s board of civil cases created narrow specialization of commercial lawsuits, which comprises of 4 judges. These are Tamar Burjanadze, Levan Mikaberidze, Lasha Kochiashvili and Soso Gurtskaia, Netgazeti.Ge reports.


    NETGAZETI.GE: “HEADS OF FINANCIAL COMPANY “SAKARTVELO” SENTENCED TO IMPRISONMENT”

    August 1, 2017 - Tbilisi city court found 3 heads of financial company Sakartvelo (Georgia) guilty and sentenced them to imprisonment from 7 to 10 years.

    The Prosecutor’s Office declares that these persons had spent tens of millions of lari, received in 2013-2016 as credit from 2,343 citizens without any guaranty and economic calculations.


    FORBES GEORGIA: “COMPETITION AGENCY TO STUDY CASE OF “SOCAR” ANEW”

    July 31, 2017 - By court decision, the Competition Agency will study case of SOCAR Petroleum Georgia anew, the magazine reports.

    As the Agency explains, there are 9 lawsuits on cases of oil companies, being considered in various judicial instances, one of which was returned by Supreme Court for reconsideration to the Agency.

    July 31, 2017 - Italian company ASACert had planned opening of Caucasus branch in Tbilisi as far back as 2015, Eugeorgia.Info reports. The company intended to issue certificate of conformity to the European standards (sign SE) to construction companies.

    REZONANSI: “LICENSING OF TAXI WILL NOT BE STARTED IN 2018 ALSO”

    August 3, 2017 - Current legislation does not regulate private transportations of passengers in Georgia, the newspaper says.

    Talks about regulation and licensing of taxi business were started as far back as 2016, but this issue is still unresolved, the article points.

    August 2, 2017 - Paata Tsagareishvili, expert at Hub Georgia, disagrees with statements of state agencies that the project of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, in case of its launch in near future, will bring considerable dividends to Georgia.

    “The project had to come to the end in 2013, but even today, in 2917, it is not put in operation”, Tsagareishvili specifies.

    August 1, 2017 - During a year, property right on land was registered to 193,203 citizens, the magazine reports. Biggest share (5.5%) has Sachkhere municipality (Imereti region), where land plots were registered by 10,673 persons, the article specifies.

    August 2, 2017 - Referring to Sakstat, the magazine reports that 5,009 construction permits were issued in Georgia in the first half of this year. If compared with the same period of 2016, number of issued permissions has decreased by 186 (despite that the headline indicates the growth).

    July 31, 2017 - The working version of the master plan of Tbilisi development (there remain several months until its adoption) envisages that until 2030, 82% of the areas in Tbilisi real estate sector should be residential, 17% – public and business, while industrial and warehouse – only 1%. As the magazine note, these estimations are based on permissions, issued to ongoing projects.

He stated this in his video address, published on Facebook.
