Prime Minister’s press service reported that governmental delegation would participate in high-level ministerial meeting, which will be held in Geneva under the auspices of United Nations on September 15-16. Georgia’s Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili said that signing Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) between EU and Georgia makes the country more attractive for international investors, and especially, for Chinese capital. It is not only about transport, but also about mastering of industrial potential, Kvirikashvili declared during discussion at World Economic Forum, which is held in China.

SINGAPORE’S BUSINESS DELEGATION TO VISIT GEORGIA

Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that Singapore’s business delegation is going to visit Georgia on October 8-11. The main goal of visit of delegation, consisting 15 persons, is better acquainting with Georgia’s business environment for future investment, the Ministry said.

TBILISI TO HOST GEORGIA-UKRAINE BUSINESS FORUM

Georgian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) reported that Tbilisi will host Georgia-Ukraine business-forum on September 16. At the event, it is planned to hold presentation of enterprises as well as bilateral meetings between Georgian and Ukrainian companies, GCCI said, pointing that Ukrainian companies are interested in agricultural sector.

AGRICULTURE MINISTER: DESPITE OF DAMAGED VINEYARDS, ABOUT 100,000 T OF GRAPE WILL BE PROCESSED THIS YEAR

Agriculture Minister Otar Danelia declared that vintage in Kakheti (main winemaking region of Georgia) is going on “in organized manner, without obstacles”. “Despite of significant damage, inflicted to vineyards in Kakheti by hail and drought this year, and decreased harvest, up to 100,000 t of grape will be processed during vintage season of 2014, i.e. more than last year”, Danelia said at the press conference today.

Policy Institute of International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University (ISET Policy Institute) reported that Costumer Confidence Index (CCI) declined in August by 1.9 points, to -13.2 points. “Employment and income in Georgian regions heavily depend on agricultural sector’s indices during the harvest season”, the Institute said and pointed that “summer of 2014 was one of the driest for the recent years, which had negative impact on crops and, consequently, CCI too”.

“NATIONAL MOVEMENT” CALLS THE GOVERNMENT TO EXPLAIN PROBLEMS WITH 6-MONTH PERFORMANCE OF THE BUDGET

Parliamentary fraction of oppositional United National Movement applied to the government with special declaration, pointing at problems in 6-month performance of the budget. In the reporting period, there is revenues’ shortage of about 115 million lari, while under-spending amounted to about 400 million lari, plan of grant revenues is fulfilled by 48%, National Movement said, calling the government to explain these figures.

Several non-governmental organizations declared that “There is reasonable suspicion that in a row of cases, dismissal of public servants in Tbilisi City Hall is conducted on background of open or hidden pressure”. “We call on Tbilisi Mayor and relevant authorities to investigate these cases and take appropriate measures to exclude politically motivated discrimination”, the organizations said in a joint statement published today.

Tbilisi Mayor David Narmania has declared that after deal between former government of Tbilisi and Liberty Bank, the capital’s budget has lost over 10 million lari, as the bank decreased rate of interest, accrued on funds of the City Hall, placed in the bank. Responding to this declaration, Liberty Bank released a statement, saying that decrease of yield for the City Hall’s funds was caused by market situation.

Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia) has published Georgian banking market data, according to which it holds 28.4% in terms of corporate deposits, but its share has decreased within 6 months (at the beginning of the year – 30.9%). TBC Bank accounts for 22.9% of the market (against of 25.7% at the beginning of the year), Liberty Bank – for 13.2% (against of 12.6%), VTB Bank Georgia – 7.7% (against of 6.9%) and Republic – for 5.8% (against of 5.6%).

“SAKARTVELOS BANKI” LEADS IN TERMS OF CORPORATE AND RETAIL LOANS, ALTHOUGH ITS SHARE DECREASED

Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia) has published Georgian banking market data, according to which it holds 34.5% in terms of corporate loans, but the share has decreased within 6 months (at the beginning of the year – 35.6%). TBC Bank accounts for 26.7% of the market (against of 27.9%), ProCredit Bank – for 9.6% (against of 9.3%), Cartu – 6.9% (against of 6.2%) and Republic – for 4.1% (against of 4.7%).
