1. LIVING WAGE IN FEBRUARY INCREASED BY 4.3% Y-O-Y
Economics

Sakstat reported that living wage for average consumer amounted in February to 155.3 lari. If compared with the same period of 2017 (148.9 lari), this indicator has increased by 4.3%.

2. “TI GEORGIA”: THE GOVERNMENT FAILED TO TAKE ADEQUATE MEASURES FOR PREVENTION, IDENTIFICATION AND ERADICATION OF CORRUPTION AT HIGH LEVELS
Politics

TI Georgia, Georgian branch of Transparency International, declared that the government of Georgia in general failed to take adequate measures in 2014-2016 for prevention, identification and eradication of corruption at high levels.

In spite of certain steps, taken for improvement of the legislative base, obvious gaps were seen in execution of regulation against corruption and conflict of interests, the organization specified.

3. SINCE 2003, GEORGIA RECEIVED 15M EUR WITHIN EIDHR, AND 9M EUR – WITHIN SUPPORT OF CSO/LA
Politics

The EU representation in Georgia pointed that 164 projects were implemented in Georgia within the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR), having total budget of 45 million lari (15 million EUR). EIDHR was launched in 2003.

4. THE EU ASSISTS TO IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECT ON SURVEILLANCE ON MARKET OF INDUSTRIAL AND NON-FOOD CONSUMER GOODS IN GEORGIA
Economics

This year, implementation of the project on surveillance on the market of industrial and non-food consumer goods was started, Technical and Construction Supervision Agency of Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.

According to the Agency, the Twinnig project (i.e. cooperation of respective European and Georgian departments) is implemented through financing of the EU, making up 4.5 million lari.

5. CODE OF GAS DISTRIBUTION NETWORK IS UNDER CONSIDERATION AT THE REGULATING COMMISSION
Economics

The working meeting, dedicated to Code of Gas Distribution Network, was held recently at National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission.

As the Commission reported, the meeting was held within frames of the governance project of the EU-funded program “EU4Energy” and was led by experts of European Energy Community.

6. VIOLATIONS REVEALED AT PUBLIC CATERING OBJECTS
Economics

National Food Agency reported about documentary check and inspection, conducted at 19 restaurants and cafes of Tbilisi.

The inspection has fixed positive situation at 3 restaurants, while operation of 7 objects was suspended because of critical discrepancy (i.e. hazardous for human health), the Agency said.

7. FINANCE MINISTRY: UNIFORM DIGITAL BASE OF “SILK ROAD” WILL BE CREATED
Economics

Georgia began implementation of the project, which envisages harmonization with uniform digital base of Silk Road, Georgian Finance Ministry reported.

Within the project, creation of technological platform will begin, which will connect in regional scale the project’s participant countries.

8. IN 2017, VISITORS’ AVERAGE MONTHLY EXPENSES IN SEGMENT OF DOMESTIC TOURISM MADE 136M LARI
Economics

Sakstat reported that average monthly expenses of visitors of 15 years and above in segment of domestic tourism amounted in 2017 to 136 million lari. In 2016, this indicator made up 135.1 million lari.

9. IN 2017, AVERAGE MONTHLY NUMBER OF VISITORS IN SEGMENT OF DOMESTIC TOURISM SLIGHTLY DECREASED
Economics

Sakstat reported that in 2017, average monthly number of visitors of 15 years and above in segment of domestic tourism made up 863,400. If compared with 2016, this indicator has decreased by 1.03%.

10. NEW BRIDGE BUILT ON CHALADIDI-KHORGA-KHOBI ROAD
Economics

New bridge is built on Korati River in Khobi municipality (Samegrelo region), the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure reported, noting that the former bridge was in critical condition.

The project worth of 1.68 million lari was financed from the state budget, the Ministry said.

11. COURT FOUND TWO CITIZENS GUILTY OF ATTEMPT OF FRAUDULENT SEIZURE OF LAND PLOT, BELONGING TO THE CITIZEN OF EGYPT
Society

Rustavi city court found two persons guilty of attempt of fraud in large volume, Georgian Main Prosecutor’s Office reported.

According to the Office, it was confirmed that the mentioned persons presented in June 2017 false documents to National Agency of Public Register and tried to seize by fraud land plot, belonging to the citizen of Egypt.
