1. GEORGIAN MINISTER: WITH AZERBAIJAN, WE WILL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO IMPLEMENT MANY PROJECTS THAT WILL INCREASE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE MIDDLE CORRIDOR

With the Azerbaijani side, “we will have the opportunity to implement many joint projects that are related to even greater improvement of transport infrastructure”, said Levan Davitashvili, Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development. This will increase the competitiveness of the Middle Corridor (which runs from China to Turkey and European countries via Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan and Georgia), he pointed.

2. IN 2021, GEORGIA’S WHEAT PRODUCTION INCREASED BY 32.9%

Sakstat reported that in 2021, wheat production in Georgia totaled to 136,100 t. If compared with 2020, the volume has increased by 32.9%, Georgian statistics service said.

3. IN 2021, AREA OF ANNUAL CROPS INCREASED BY 1%
Economics

Sakstat released estimation, according to which area, sown by annual crops in 2021, made up 212,100 ha. If compared with 2020, the area has increased by 1%, Georgian statistics service said.

4. IN 2021, GEORGIA’S PRODUCTION OF GRAPES DECREASED BY 15.1%, OF FRUITS (EXCLUDING GRAPES AND CITRUSES) – BY 2.6%
Economics

Sakstat released estimation, according to which 269,200 t of grapes were produced in Georgia in 2021. If compared with 2020, the volume has decreased by 15.1%, Georgian statistics service said.

5. A NEW SUPPORT PROGRAM FOR LAND-POOR FARMERS TO BE LAUNCHED
Economics

At the meeting today, the Georgian government approved a support program for farmers, having small agricultural land plots. The budget of the new program makes up 35 million lari, the government declared.

6. AGRICULTURE MINISTER: WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF THE NEW PROJECT, WORKS ON MELIORATION INFRASTRUCTURE WILL BE CARRIED OUT IN ALL REGIONS
Economics

Otar Shamugia, Georgia’s Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, declared that within the framework of the new project, works on melioration infrastructure will be carried out in all regions of the country.

The Minister told the reporters about this today and noted: “We have allocated up to 500 million lari for infrastructure improvement, though infrastructure that has been out of order for years requires a very large financial resource and also time for full recovery”.

7. GOVERNMENT: WITHIN THE FRAMEWORK OF CONSTRUCTION INSTALLMENT PROGRAM, INVESTMENT PROJECTS WORTH 3B LARI WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN 2022-2025
Economics

Within the framework of the program on construction by installment, investment projects totaling to about 3 billion lari will be implemented in 2022-2025, the Georgian government reported. As the government noted, implementation of main part of the projects is planned in an accelerated mode in 2022-2023.

8. ECONOMY MINISTER: UNIVERSAL INTERNETIZATION PROGRAM CONTINUES IN RACHA-LECHKHUMI AND KVEMO SVANETI REGION
Economics

Upon completion of construction of a fiber-optic network in Ozurgeti and Kobuleti municipalities, the universal internetization program continues in Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti region, declared Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development.

In particular, the program will cover all 4 municipalities of this region: Ambrolauri, Oni, Tsageri and Lentekhi, as well as a number of villages of Tskaltubo municipality (Imereti region).

9. IN Q1, GEORGIA’S EXPORT TO EU INCREASED BY 33% Y-O-Y, IMPORT FROM EU – BY 35% Y-O-Y

Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s commodity export to the EU countries in January-March totaled to $208.6 million. If compared with the same period of 2021, the volume has increased by 33%.

10. IN Q1, GEORGIA’S EXPORT TO CIS INCREASED BY 18.8% Y-O-Y, IMPORT FROM CIS – BY 22.9% Y-O-Y

Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s commodity export to the CIS countries in January-March totaled to $435.6 million. If compared with the same period of 2021, the volume has increased by 18.8%.

11. IN Q1, GEORGIA’S LOCAL EXPORT INCREASED BY 46.6% Y-O-Y
Economics

Sakstat released estimation, according to which Georgia’s local commodity export (exports without re-export) in January-March totaled to $885.4 million. If compared with the same period of 2021, the volume has increased by 46.6%.

12. IN Q1, GEORGIA’S REVENUES FROM INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS MADE UP 68.1% OF THE 2019 LEVEL
Economics

Georgian National Tourism Administration reported that in January-March, Georgia’s revenues from international travelers totaled to $394 million. This corresponds to 68.1% of the same period’s indicator of 2019, the Administration said.

13. IN 2021-2023, PROJECTS IMPLEMENTED IN HIGH-ALTITUDE SETTLEMENTS TO TOTAL TO 968.5M LARI
Economics

The Georgian government declared that action plan for high-altitude settlements’ development in 2021-2023 envisages implementation of projects worth 968.5 million lari. The matter concerns both infrastructure and social support (tax and other benefits).

14. IN 2022-2025, BUDGET OF IDPS’ RESETTLEMENT PROGRAM TO BE ABOUT 700M LARI
Economics

The Georgian government declared that the budget of the IDPs resettlement program for 2022-2025 will amount to about 700 million lari. As the government noted, up to 13,000 families will receive new housing under the program.

15. 341M LARI TO BE ALLOCATED FOR ASSISTANCE TO SOCIALLY VULNERABLE CHILDREN THIS YEAR
Economics

The Georgian government declared about allocation of 341 million lari for assistance to socially vulnerable children this year.

According to the decision, made by the government on April 18, the monthly assistance per child will amount to 150 lari (i.e. increased by 50%).

16. IN TBILISI, SUBMISSION OF PHASED PROTOCOLS ON CONSTRUCTION WORKS IS POSTPONED UNTIL 2023
Economics

Tbilisi City Hall declared that the Georgian Parliament approved initiative of the municipality, which envisages postponement of submission of phased protocols on construction works in the capital until January 1, 2023. At that, fines accrued so far for failure to submit protocols, will be written off to companies.
