1. IMF LEFT FORECAST OF GEORGIA’S GDP GROWTH UNCHANGED, BUT RAISED FORECAST OF INFLATION
Economics

In its end-of-visit statement, the IMF mission said that it maintains unchanged the forecast of Georgia’s economic growth for 2019 at the level of 4.6%. At that, forecast of annual inflation at the end of 2019 makes up 5.4%, the mission noted.

2. NDI SURVEY: 57% DO NOT BELIEVE THAT AFTER RETIREMENT, THEY WILL BE ABLE TO USE FUNDS OF ACCUMULATIVE SYSTEM
Society

Survey, conducted in Georgia by order of National Democratic Institute (NDI), shows that among those 16% of respondents, who is involved in the state pension program, 30% believe that after retirement, they will be able to use funds of accumulative pension system. In turn, 57% do not believe, while 13% do not know.

3. NDI SURVEY: 82% EVALUATES UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE PROGRAM POSITIVELY, 13% – NEGATIVELY
Society

Survey, conducted in Georgia by order of National Democratic Institute (NDI), shows that 82% of respondents evaluates the universal healthcare program positively (including 59%, who evaluates positively in part), while 13% – negatively.

Among those 64% of respondents, who is involved in the program, 48% declare that the program covers main part of their medical expenses, 34% – a small part, 10% – all expenses.

4. NDI SURVEY: NEW BANKING REGULATIONS ARE ACCEPTABLE FOR 49%, UNACCEPTABLE – FOR 34%
Society

Survey, conducted in Georgia by order of National Democratic Institute (NDI), shows that banking regulations (demand to estimate solvency of borrower and respective restriction of crediting), which became effective since 2019, are approved by 49% of respondents, while disapproved by 13%. 16% declared that they do not know.

5. FINANCIAL STABILITY COMMITTEE LEFT COUNTER-CYCLICAL BUFFER INTACT AGAIN
Economics

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that its Financial Stability Committee decided today to maintain the counter-cyclical buffer without change, at the level of 0%.

To remind, NBG defined the counter-cyclical buffer (macroprudential policy tool) for the first time in December 2017.

6. GEORGIAN PREMIER AND NEW AMBASSADOR OF FRANCE DISCUSSED POTENTIAL OF ECONOMIC COOPERATION DEEPENING

Giorgi Gakharia, appointed recently as Georgian Prime Minister, met today with Diego Colas, new ambassador of France in Georgia.

“At the meeting of introductory character, the attention was paid to positive dynamics of development of bilateral political and economic relations, as well as to progress in process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, made by Georgia”, press service of Georgian government said.

7. ECONOMY MINISTRY: IATA PLANS TO OPEN REGIONAL TRAINING CENTER IN TBILISI

Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that International Air Transport Association (IATA) plans to open regional training center in Tbilisi.

As the Ministry noted, currently top management of IATA training center is visiting Georgia, arriving in the country by invitation of Sakaeronavigatsia (Georgian Air Navigation).

8. PARTNERSHIP FUND: PRODUCTION OF MEDICAL TEXTILES WILL BE STARTED IN GEORGIA
Business

Georgian Partnership Fund declared that production of medical textiles (sterile and unsterile production) will be started for the first time in Georgia.

The project will be implemented by Doctor Goods, the winner company of the “Startup Georgia” state program.

9. LABORATORY OF RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES OPENED IN TBILISI
Economics

Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission reported that laboratory of renewable energy sources (RES Lab) is opened at Business and Technology University, being the first one in Georgia.

Initiator of creation of RES Lab is Maya Melikidze, member of the Commission and representative of the academic council of the University.

10. “GEORGIAN DREAM” LEADER: WITHIN THE HADRON ACCELERATOR PROJECT, CORRESPONDING INFRASTRUCTURE HAS BEEN CREATED IN TBILISI AND KUTAISI
Politics

Cartu fund works already for several years on the project of hadron accelerator in Georgia and for this end, corresponding infrastructure has been created in Tbilisi and Kutaisi”, says the statement of Bidzina Ivanishvili, billionaire leader of ruling Georgian Dream party, which was spread today.

According to the statement, at the first stage, center of hadron therapy with accelerator of cyclotron type will be built in Kutaisi, which will have both research and medical appointment.
