COALITION OF CIVIL ORGANIZATIONS: QUALITATIVE REFORM OF JUDICIAL SYSTEM SHOULD START IMMEDIATELY

Coalition For Independent and Transparent Justice urged the government “to start qualitative reform of judicial system immediately and apply changes, which necessity is recognized by local or international organizations already for years”. In current situation, “It is important, the government to recognize these systemic problems, existing in the judicial system, and really target security of independence of the court”, the Coalition stated.

NUMBER OF CONVICTS INCREASED IN 2016 BY 3.4%

Sakstat reported that by the end of 2016, number of convicts made up 15,640 (including 838 women), increasing by 3.4%, if compared with 2015 (15,139), and by 43.3%, if compared with 2012 (10,922). Probationers accounted in the reporting year for biggest share – 6,730 (decrease in comparison with 2015 – 2.8%, increase in comparison with 2012 – 26.9%), while 3,828 persons were subjected to imprisonment (decrease – 13.8% and 13.1%, respectively).

NBG: 25% OF ELIGIBLE CREDITS CONVERTED WITHIN LARIZATION PROGRAM

National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that 5,617 banking credits, issued in foreign currency, were converted in loans in national currency within one-time program of larization, making up $78.66 million in total. Thus, the program resulted in conversion of 25% of total eligible credits, NBG said.

ECONOMY MINISTRY: “NATURA TEA COMPANY” TO SELL PRODUCTION AT “AGROHUB” HYPERMARKET

Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that production of LLC Natura Tea Company will be sold at Tbilisi hypermarket Agrohub. The company, which was funded within Unified Agro Project (preferential agrocredit), owns tea plantation of 50 ha in Ozurgeti municipality (Guria region) and is focused on ecologically clean production, the Ministry said.
