1. GEORGIAN ECONOMY MINISTER DISCUSSED COOPERATION ISSUES WITH SIDA
Economics

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili, being in Sweden with working visit, held a meeting with director general of Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) Charlotte Petri Gornitzka.

As the Georgian Ministry said, the discussion touched upon key directions of cooperation, as well as “those reforms, which the government has already conducted and will conduct in future towards European integration”.

2. GEORGIAN ECONOMY MINISTRY: SWEDISH COMPANIES EXPRESS DESIRE TO OPEN REPRESENTATIONS IN GEORGIA
Economics

Georgia’s Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili, being in Sweden with working visit, held a meeting with Swedish Minister of Trade Ewa Bjorling.

Kvirikashvili also took part in meeting with leadership of Swedish companies, being organized by Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) and Business Sweden association.

3. SUBSIDIES AND PREFERENCES WILL APPLY TO THIS YEAR’S VINTAGE ALSO
Economics

Agriculture Minister Shalva Pipia and chairman of National Wine Agency Levan Davitashvili held a meeting with managers of about 80 wine and strong drinks companies “in order to hold organized and successful rtveli (vintage)”.

The Ministry brings statement of Pipia, who declared that likewise rtveli-2013, credit resource will be allotted this year also, so that wine companies will be able to get preferential loans.

4. WITHIN VARIETIES’ TESTING PROJECT, FIRST WHEAT HARVEST REAPED
Economics

Agriculture Ministry reported that within varieties’ testing project, first wheat harvest was reaped in village Talaveri (Bolnisi district of Kvemo Kartli region).

The Ministry’s Projects Management Agency started the mentioned project, being calculated for 3 years, in last year.

5. STATE AUDIT SERVICE REVEALED VIOLATIONS OF 193.9M LARI IN 2013
Economics

State Audit Service declared that audits, conducted in 2013, revealed violations totaling to 193.9 million lari, including misspending of funds, which damaged the state budget with 131.8 million lari. If compared with 2012, the volume has increased 4.4 times.

6. “PMCG”: PROCUREMENTS, BASED ON THE GOVERNMENT’S CONSENT, SHOULD BE LIMITED
Economics

Policy and Management Consulting Group (PMCG) declared that legislation should be amended in order to limit simplified procurements, implemented on the base of the government’s consent.

Namely, list of exceptions should be maximally shortened for bill on the state procurement, which includes such institutions as reserve funds of the President, the government and Tbilisi City Hall, as well as Georgian Lottery Company and Georgian Post, the company said.

7. ALMOST TWO-THIRDS OF RUSTAVI-SAGAREJO ROAD SECTION’S REHABILITATION ACCOMPLISHED
Economics

Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation declared that 64% of construction on 300-mm Rustavi-Sagarejo section (25 km) of Kakheti main gas pipeline is already accomplished.

To remind, the works are conducted by a tender-winning company LLC Komfortmshen XXI.

8. NUMBER OF FIXED BROADBAND INTERNET USERS INCREASED BY 26.3% IN 2013
Economics

According to annual report of National Communication Commission for 2013, number of fixed broadband internet user by the end of the reporting year amounted to 579,129. If compared with 2012, the number has increased by 26.3%.

9. FIBER-OPTICAL TECHNOLOGIES ARE USED BY 42.5% OF TOTAL USERS OF FIXED BROADBAND INTERNET
Economics

According to annual report of National Communication Commission for 2013, fiber-optical technologies were used in the reporting year by 245,648 users of fixed broadband internet, accounting for 42.5% of their total number. If compared with 2012, number of fiber-optical technologies’ users increased by 35.9%.

10. TBILISI ACCOUNTS FOR 41.2% OF TOTAL DSL USERS
Economics

According to annual report of National Communication Commission for 2013, number of DSL service users in the reporting year made up 220,020. If compared with 2012, the number has increased by 4.1%.

11. INVESTIGATIVE SERVICE ARRESTED DIRECTOR OF “IBERIA CITY”
Society

The Finance Ministry’s Investigative Service arrested director of construction company LLC Iberia City Giorgi Gogiberidze on charge of especially large sum misappropriation through fraud.

As the Service declared, Gigiberidze’s company Iberia City signed agreements with customers in 2005-2008, undertaken liability to build two multistory residential buildings near Georgian Technical University in Tbilisi and provide them with flats there.
