1. GEORGIAN PRIME MINISTER HELD MEETINGS WITH EU LEADERS
Politics

Georgian delegation, led by Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, held meetings with EU leaders within official visit to Brussels.

In particular, as the Premier’s press office reported, Garibashvili met presidents of European Commission, European Council and European Parliament, as well as chairman of European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.

2. GEORGIA-MOLDOVA INTERGOVERNMENTAL ECONOMIC COMMISSION TO BE ESTABLISHED
Politics

In order to intensify economic cooperation, Georgia and Moldova will create intergovernmental economic commission.

Such initiative Prime Ministers of Georgia and Moldova, Irakli Garibashvili and Chiril Gaburici, expressed on today’s meeting in Brussels.

3. ECONOMY MINISTER: EXPORT-ORIENTED INVESTMENTS MUST HAVE SPECIAL SUPPORT
Economics

Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that “in future, while attracting investments, those ones, which are directed to development of export-oriented production, must have special support”.

It is important for Georgian government to determine the priorities in terms of export-oriented industries’ encouragement, said Kvirikashvili at today’s meeting with delegation of the World Bank (WB).

4. FINANCE MINISTER PRESENTED INITIATIVES ON SIMPLIFICATION OF ACCOUNTING REGULATION TO OIL IMPORTERS ASSOCIATION
Economics

Within consultative meetings between the government and business, Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri met today representatives of Oil-Products Importers Association.

As the Finance Ministry reported, Khaduri has presented initiatives on simplification of accounting regulation.

5. $280,733 TO BE SPENT ON TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WITHIN BRUCELLOSIS PREVENTION AND CONTROL PROGRAM
Economics

Georgian Agriculture Ministry signed today agreement with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) on technical assistance within brucellosis prevention and control program.

As the Ministry pointed, in order to ensure effective implementation of disease control, FAO will assist National Food Agency in implementation of vaccination campaign and training of staff.

6. IDFI: MINISTERS’ REMUNERATION WAS REGULATED IN 2014, ALTHOUGH THEIR DEPUTIES HAD MUCH HIGHER BONUSES AND RISES
Society

Institute for Development of Freedom of Information (IDFI) reported that ministers’ remuneration was regulated in 2014, although their deputies had much higher bonuses and rises to salaries.

Upon analysis of property declarations, IDFI said that “in a row of ministries, the deputies and other officials had higher income than the ministers”.

7. NATIONAL WINE AGENCY: GEORGIAN WINE TO TAKE PART IN 4 INTERNATIONAL EXHIBITIONS IN MARCH
Economics

National Wine Agency announced that Georgian wine will take part in 4 important international events in March.

In particular, 40th international exhibition of food and drink “Foodex Japan” will be held on March 3-6 in Japan, in which 2,800 participants from 83 countries will take part, the Agency said, pointing that Georgia will be presented with 6 producers.

8. “SAKARTVELOS BANKI” EXTENDS LOANS, ISSUED IN DOLLARS
Business

Director general of Sakartvelos Banki (Bank of Georgia) Irakli Gilauri announced today that duration of loans, issued in the US dollar to private individuals, who have income in lari, will be extended.

At the press conference, held in the bank’s head office, Gilauri specified that such clients account for 7% of Sakartvelos Banki’s total clients.

9. FODDER MANUFACTURING ENTERPRISE TO BE ESTABLISHED IN TBILISI THROUGH “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” PROGRAM
Business

By decree of the Prime Minister, state-owned non-agricultural land sites with total area of 30,394 square m in Tbilisi, together with buildings and railway of 417 m, will be handed over to LLC Agro Trading Georgia through direct sale within state program “Produce in Georgia” (i.e. for symbolic price of 1 lari).

According to privatization terms, the company has to establish on this territory a fodder-producing enterprise within 2 years after the order’s issuance.
