1. FINANCE MINISTER: ECONOMIC GROWTH IN MAY MADE UP ABOUT 6.3%, WHILE IN JANUARY-MAY – OVER 7%
Economics

Finance Minister Nodar Khaduri declared that VAT-payers’ turnover in January-May has increased by 12.9% year-on-year. As he said, only in May, growth made up 11.6%.

2. THE GOVERNMENT APPROVED RULE OF BONUSES’ PAYMENT IN PUBLIC SERVICE
Politics

Rule, defining size of bonuses and their payment schedule in public service, was approved at the government’s meeting today.

According to the government, bonus in amount of 100% of monthly salary may be paid once a quarter by decision of public institution’s head.

3. SECOND TOUR OF LOCAL ELECTIONS TO COST 5.76M LARI
Economics

The government reported that holding of second tour of local administrations’ elections in 8 cities and 13 municipalities will be funded by 5.76 million lari.

Issue of funds’ allotment for Central Elections Commission was considered at the government’s meeting today.

4. UNDP TO COMPLETE SUPPORTING PROJECT FOR REGIONS, SUFFERED AFTER WAR, IN NEXT JULY
Economics

UN Development Program (UNDP) reported that about 200 families in Kaspi (Shida Kartli region) got today seedlings of tomatoes, eggplants and pepper for household farming.

Support to small farmers is part of joint program of UNDP and UN High Commissariat for Refugees (UNHCR), which provides assistance to villages, located along administrative borders with Georgia’s conflict regions.

5. EPI ASSISTS DEVELOPMENT OF WINE TOURISM
Economics

USAID-funded Economic Prosperity Initiative (EPI) assists compilation of wine tourism guide, development of wine tourism web portal and making of wine tourism video. Works in these directions will complete supposedly in autumn, EPI told Sarke.

6. MORE 3 PROJECTS APPROVED WITHIN “PRODUCE IN GEORGIA” PROGRAM
Business

The government approved next 3 projects within “Produce in Georgia” program at the meeting today. Two beneficiary enterprises are located in Tbilisi, while the third one – in Gori municipality.

7. “TI GEORGIA”: FOREIGNERS ACCOUNT FOR 0.01%, WHILE THEIR COMPANIES – FOR 0.15% OF TOTAL LANDS
Politics

TI Georgia (Georgian branch of Transparency International) declared that “spread belief that foreigners have acquiring land sites in Georgia massively and daily has no ground”. According to Public Registry, land sites, owned by foreigners, total to 1,402 ha (0.01% of total land area), while sites, owned by their companies – to 31,615 ha (0.15% of total land), the organizations says.

8. PROFIT OF GEORGIAN OIL AND GAS CORPORATION INCREASED BY 16% IN 2013
Business

State-owned JSC Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation reported net profit of 94.29 million lari for 2013. If compared with 2012, the volume has increased by 16%.

9. TBILISI ACCOUNTS FOR 80.8% OF TOTAL NUMBER OF FIBER-OPTIC INTERNET USERS
Economics

According to National Communication Commission’s annual report for 2013, there were 245,648 users of fiber-optic internet in the reporting year in Georgia.

Out of total number, 80.8% (i.e. 198,000 users) resided in Tbilisi.

10. ONLY 27% OF WIFI USERS RESIDE IN 10 LARGEST CITIES
Economics

National Communication Commission’s annual report for 2013 points that WiFi service was most rapidly growing technology in the reporting year in Georgia. “It develops mainly in regions, where wired internet service is less accessible”, the report says.

11. “MAGTICOM” ACCOUNTS FOR ALMOST ALL EVDO/HSPA USERS, WHILE “VTEL GEORGIA” – FOR ALMOST ALL WIMAX USERS
Business

According to National Communication Commission’s annual report for 2013, there were 53,002 users of EVDO/HSPA internet and 10,868 ones of WiMAX in the reporting year in Georgia.

Almost all EVDO/HSPA users accounted for MagtiCom operator.

12. ALL CLIENTS OF “LIBERTY BANK” BECAME MEMBERS OF “LIBERTY CLUB”

Liberty Bank announced that all its clients became since today members of Liberty Club, which will enable them to earn points from every transaction. These points can be used than to cover utility bills, put money on mobile balance or withdraw cash.
