1. “MOODY’S” AFFIRMED GEORGIA’S SOVEREIGN RATING, IMPROVED RATING OUTLOOK
Economics

Moody’s affirmed Georgia’s sovereign credit rating at the level of “Ba2”. At that, the rating agency improved the rating outlook from “negative” to “stable”.

2. VICE-SPEAKER OF GEORGIAN PARLIAMENT: FUNDING OF AGRICULTURAL SECTOR BY PRIVATE FINANCES REMAINS A PROBLEM
Economics

“In 2013, the agricultural portfolio amounted to only 60 million lari, and the state began to implement programs, subsidize loans, etc., and this portfolio grew to 3 billion lari”, declares Nino Tsilosani, vice-speaker of the Georgian Parliament.

Tsilosani stressed that “the dynamics are impressive, although funding for the agricultural sector through private finance still remains a problem”.

3. GEORGIAN AGRICULTURE MINISTRY: PREFERENTIAL AGROCREDITS FOR CULTIVATION OF ANNUAL CROPS WILL BE ISSUED THIS YEAR TOO
Economics

This year, as last year, we will provide an opportunity for farmers, who are engaged in the cultivation of annual crops, to take preferential loans, Georgia’s Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Otar Shamugia told reporters after the government meeting today.

The Minister specified that the state will finance 9% in loan interest rate for a period of 1 year.

4. GOVERNMENT TO CO-FINANCE PURCHASE OF SMALL AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY BY RESIDENTS OF GEORGIA’S MOUNTAINOUS SETTLEMENTS
Economics

This year, Georgian Rural Development Agency will implement in mountainous settlements of the country a program of co-financing the acquisition of agricultural machinery. The budget of the program amounts to 5 million lari.

5. MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE OF GEORGIA: BUDGET INCREASED FOR HARVESTING MACHINERY CO-FINANCING PROGRAM
Economics

This year, total budget of the program of co-financing of harvesting agricultural machinery amounts to 10 million lari, Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture reported. Last year, the allocation totaled to 7 million lari (respectively, the volume has increased by 43%).

6. GEORGIA APPROVED EU INTEGRATION ACTION PLAN FOR 2024
Politics

Administration of the Georgian government declared that Georgia’s EU integration action plan for 2024 has been approved.

Commission for Georgia’s integration into the EU held its 71st meeting on March 26.

7. GEORGIA AND MALTA AGREED ON COOPERATION IN TELECOM REGULATION
Economics

Georgian National Communication Commission reported about signing of cooperation agreement with the Malta Communications Authority (MCA) today.

The Commission said that the agreement covers such issues as market analysis, mechanisms for strengthening or protecting consumers, digital map, roaming, universal services, etc.

8. IN 2023, NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS TO GEORGIAN TELECOM OMBUDSMAN INCREASED BY 28%
Society

In 2023, total of 1,572 complaints were received, Georgian telecom ombudsman service reported. If compared to 2022 (1,227 complaints), the number has increased by 28%.
