Georgian government decided to toughen considerably measures within the declared state of emergency, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia declared after the meeting of interdepartmental coordination council on COVID-19 pandemic today.

“We declare in fact, I emphasize – in fact, the total quarantine”, which will enter in force in 08:00 on March 31, the Premier reported.

At the news briefing today, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia announced about introduction of total quarantine in the country since March 31.

As the Premier noted, rule of operation of those enterprises, which activity the government has allowed in these conditions, will be drawn separately and they will have separate protocols, agreed with the Ministry of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Healthcare and Social Protection.

“Our only tool to be effective and successful in fight against this virus is rapid and courageous decisions and we have no right at all to be late”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia declared.

The Premier said this today at the news briefing, at which he announced about introduction of total quarantine in the country since March 31.

The US will allocate $1.1 million to Georgia as assistance in fight against COVID-19 coronavirus, the US embassy in Georgia declared on March 27.

The funding “will help prepare laboratory systems, activate case-finding and event-based surveillance, support technical experts for response and preparedness, bolster risk communication, and more”, the embassy specified.

Economic Policy Research Center (EPRC) indicates that degree of Georgia economy’s ability to cope with blow of COVID-19 pandemic will depend on the country’s capacity to work with international financial institutions and what is much important, to use effectively the raised funds. The think-tank reviews statements, made by international financial institutions concerning the assistance.

“Today, we face such challenges [because of COVID-19 pandemic] that [port of] Poti has to be built, as well as Anaklia”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia declared in Zugdidi to journalists on March 28. “Obligation of Poti port is investment of $350 million within the next 2 years and creation of at least 1,500 jobs, at the stage of construction”, he pointed.

Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture declared that in parallel with fight against of spread of COVID-19 coronavirus, spring works are actively carried out in regions of the country, with observance of safety standards.

Farmers intensively carry out necessary procedures of soil cultivation and farms processing, the Ministry said.

Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture declared that practice of crops turnover will be introduced this spring on up to 1,000 ha in regions of Shida Kartli and Kakheti. Actions will be captured by such crops as peas, corn, haricot and buckwheat, the Ministry specified.
