He said that he will raise the question of abolition of the excise next year, since the income from it is already envisaged in budget 1999.

  3. ZHVANIA HAD MEETINGS WITH POPE AND STATE MINISTER OF VATICAN

    The Chairman of the state department on the State Border Protection of Georgia Valeri Chkheidze has visited Akhaltsikhe, where he met with the command and the personnel of the frontier troops, controlling 117 km of the state border. The military council, during which the decision on dismissing Gregory Leziashvili from the post of commander of this brigade was adopted, was held behind the closed doors.

  5. NEW INVESTOR FOR MADNEULI?

    According to Zurab Kutelia, Chairman of the interdepartmental commission for natural resources and mining, a governmental commission currently working in Madneuli, is preparing a decree to deprive Madneuli JSC of the mining license on the ground of environment pollution. The Ministry of Environment Protection and Natural Resources is planning to invite new tenders for the license.

  6. LABORATORY ANALYSIS CONFIRMED THAT THE OIL LEAKAGE TOOK PLACE AT THE BATUMI OIL REFINERY

    This is the information delivered by the first Deputy Minister of the Environment Protection and Natural Resources Zurab Tavartkiladze, commenting on the results of the governmental commission on the discovering of the oil traces at the coast of Supsa.     As it is known it has been several years already that the opposition organizations, in the first place so called “Zviadist” organizations demand to give the political estimation to the events of winter of 1991-1992 years in Tbilisi, when as a result of the armed clashes the President Zviad Gamsakhurdia was overthrown.

    The Chairman of the Parliament Zurab Zhvania stressed the special importance of this decision, noting however that it is possible the commission will operate at the newly formed Parliament.
