   During the visit Mr. Arthur Rasi-Zade met with President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze, Chairman of Parliament Zurab Zhvania and State Minister Niko Lekishvili. The Azerbaijanian delegation visited Poti and Supsa, where they examined a terminal under construction, which next spring will receive the first consignment of Azerbaijanian petroleum.

3. A PARLIAMENTARY GROUP IS BEING CREATED WITH THE PURPOSE OF RELAXING THE TENSION BETWEEN THE CENTER AND AJARA

   Chairman of Parliament of Georgia Zurab Zhvania has announced at the meeting of the board about the necessity of creation of a parliamentary group, which should work over relaxing the tension between Tbilisi and the administration of Ajar Autonomous Republic. Spreading the rumors this autumn, according to which the central authorities have tried to overthrow Chairman of Supreme Council of Ajara Aslan Abashidze, caused the tension.

4. SUPREME COUNCIL OF ABKHAZIAN AUTONOMOUS REPUBLIC SUSPENDS THE POWERS OF MP BORIS KAKUBAVA

   Chairman of Supreme Council of Abkhazia Tamaz Nadareishvili has informed about it. According to him, the activity of Mr. Kakubava, who heads the Coordination Council of the Organizations for Refugees, contravenes the policy of Supreme Council of Abkhazia.

5. EDUARD SHEVARDNADZE MEETS WITH WILLIAM CORTNEY, ASSISTANT OF US PRESIDENT

   Yesterday President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze received William Courtney, the former US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Georgia, and now the head director of US National Security Council. The meeting marked that the relations between the two countries have been significantly activated.

6. A CONGRESS OF THE REFUGEES WILL BE HELD ON DECEMBER 29

   Zurab Erkvania, chairman of the Council of Ministers of Abkhazian Autonomous Republic, has announced to the journalists about it. The congress was planned to be held on December 21.

7. A SERVICE ON PROTECTION OF PLANTS IS CREATED AT THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FOOD-STUFFS

   As the head of the service Zurab Lipartia said at the yesterday’s press-conference at the ministry, 30-35% of the potential crop is lost because of various diseases of the plants. State inspection on phitosanitary quarantine and the republican station on protection of plants are under the supervision of the new service.

8. NUMBER OF THE CRIMES, COMMITTED BY THE YOUTH AMONG THE REFUGEES FROM ABKHAZIA IS INCREASING

   Zurab Erkvania, chairman of Council of Ministers of Abkhazian Autonomous Republic, has announced to Sarke about it. According to him, on December 7 police employees detained 2 young men – the refugees from Abkhazia – in Zugdidi Region.

9. SUPREME COUNCIL OF ABKHAZIAN AUTONOMOUS REPUBLIC HOLDS AN ENLARGED MEETING

   As far as the question of petroleum transportation through the territory of Georgia is of vital importance at present, unleashing of a conflict is provoked with the purpose of presenting Georgia as an unreliable partner before the world petroleum corporations. Chairman of Supreme Council Tamaz Nadareishvili announced about it at the meeting.

10. THE QUESTIONS OF FINANCING OF TEA BRANCH ARE BEING DISCUSSED

    The question of allocation of a credit in 5 million Lari on rehabilitation of tea industry will be discussed at the today’s Tbilisi meeting of Chairman of Parliament Zurab Zhvania with the heads of administrations of tea-producing regions – Samegrelo, Guria and Imereti. The administration of the ministry of agriculture and food-stuffs will attend the meeting as well.

11. THE VISIT OF CHAIRMAN OF PARLIAMENT OF ESTONIA IS COMPLETED

12. GEORGIAN PRODUCERS OF WINES PARTICIPATED IN THE MOSCOW EXHIBITION
    (Daily News: December 2, 1997)

    An exhibition Interdrinks-97, organized by Russian-Italian firm Interexpo, was held on November 25-28 at Moscow Exhibition Center. About 250 kinds of wines were submitted from various countries, including Russia, Moldova and Italy.
