    Agriculture Ministry reported that LLC Georgian Amelioration has completed the first stage of rehabilitation of Iakublo reservoir. Works worth 600,000 lari ensured safe operation of the reservoir, the Ministry said.

    Referring to Russia’s Center for Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets’ Research, the magazine reports that in 6 months of this year, 1.1 million l of brandy was exported from Georgia to Russia, accounting for 48% of Russian market.

    According to Georgian Wine Agency, 3.7 million bottles (0.5 l) of brandy was exported from Georgia in the first half of the year, increasing by 47% year-on-year, two-third of this export fell on Russia.

    Culture Ministry’s project “Check in Georgia” envisages concerts of Georgian and foreign entertainers in 19 cities, for which end the government allocated 29 million lari from the reserve fund.

    However, “When the government undertakes function of business (the Culture Minster noted himself that “Check in Georgia” is a business project), of course, it is clear that it becomes rival of those private companies, which are engaged in the same sphere”, the magazine states.

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that Chinese Er Shang Group (food producer and distributor) became interested in Georgian agroindustrial production.

    The Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili discussed possibilities of this production’s distribution in China at the meeting with management of Er Shang Group, which was held within Georgian-Chinese business forum in Shanghai.

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that within the Chinese project of government level, Georgian wine will be promoted for the first time.

    In this connection, Georgia’s Economy Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili signed a cooperation memorandum with Chinese party within working visit to China, the Ministry reported.

    Georgian Civil Aviation Agency reported that Jordanian air carrier Royal Falcon Airlines considers possibility of launch of operations on Amman-Tbilisi-Amman route in August. The airline has held negotiations with the Agency on the subject.

    Agriculture Ministry reported that in terms of water supply to 7 villages of municipalities of Dedoplistskaro, Sagarejo and Signagi (Kakheti region), LLC Georgian Amelioration has built closed irrigating network. Cost of the project made up 350,000 lari, the Ministry said.

    The EU’s decision on visa liberalization with Georgia “will be a definite turning point in the process of Georgia’s return to European family”, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared.

    “We do hope that decision on visa-free travel of Georgian citizens to EU countries is only a matter of time and it will be made soon”, Kvirikashvili said at ambassadorial, held today.

    Research, conducted by order of Governing for Growth (G4G, USAID-funded project), showed that 55% of Georgian companies perceived tax burden in the country as average.

    However, those companies, which are subjected to value added tax (VAT), profit and import taxes, perceive taxes as heavy burden, the G4G report stated.
