    TABULA: “CRAMON: IVANISHVILI PREPARES TO TRANSFER MONEY TO GEORGIA IN CASE OF SANCTIONS”

    April 19, 2024 - Many suspect that the government will massively falsify the upcoming (in October) elections, which in turn will trigger sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili (billionaire founder of Georgia’s ruling party Georgian Dream), German MEP Viola von Cramon posted on social platform X.

    Cramon considers that Ivanishvili takes precautions in order to get his money back to Georgia in case of sanctions.

    April 19, 2024 - Georgian Parliament considers a bill, after the adoption of which an offshore company will be able to avoid taxation upon transfer of assets (including shares) to Georgia.

    Giga Bedineishvili, dean of the Business School of Free and Agrarian Universities, believes that “this is a law tailored for Ivanishvili” (billionaire founder of the ruling Georgian Dream).

    April 19, 2024 - “We are gravely disappointed by the Georgian parliament’s decision” to return to consideration of the bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence”, US State Department Speaker Matthew Miller said in a statement.

    As the statement reads, “Such Kremlin-inspired legislation is not appropriate if the goal is to promote transparency”.


    REZONANSI: “IF POLITICAL PROTESTS LAST LONGER THAN ONE WEEK, NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE ECONOMY WILL BE NOTICEABLE”

    April 18, 2024 - In 2023, initiation in Georgian Parliament of the bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” did not create problems for the economy, only lari depreciated a bit, which stabilized in the following days, the newspaper says.

    Last year’s protests did not cause economic problems, as the Parliament withdrew the bill against the backdrop of the protests, while this time the authorities are not even considering withdrawing, so the protests are likely to continue, the article points.

    Gotsiridze indicates that the bill applies only to Ivanishvili, since requires that single individual must own 100% of offshore assets.

    April 18, 2024 - Legal initiative of Georgian MPs from the ruling party exempts from taxation handover of an asset from offshore to a Georgian legal entity, as well as assets brought by these companies into Georgia. Appropriate

    amendments are planned to be made to the Tax Code.

    April 17, 2024 - The Georgian people have chosen the European path and in response, the European Council granted Georgia the candidate status last December, said European Council President Charles Michel.

    However, the bill “On Transparency of Foreign Influence” (the so-called “Russian Law”, being considered now in the Georgian Parliament) “will bring Georgia further away from the EU and not closer”, Michel posted on social platform X.

    Major opposition party United National Movement (UNM )/Agmashenebeli Strategy would receive 9.6% of the vote, while opposition party Akhali (The New, created recently by former chairman of UNM Nika Melia and former director general of Mtavari Nika Gvaramia) – 9.1%.

    April 15, 2024 - Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission has prepared a bill that increases fines for energy companies. In particular, the upper limit is raised from 75,000 lari to 500,000 lari.

    April 17, 2024 - In the near future, control over the technical inspection centers themselves may be tightened in Georgia, the newspaper says.

    “The Land Transport Agency will carry out monitoring, the rule of which will be spelled out in detail”, says Georgy Shiolashvili, chairman of the Technical Inspection Centers Union.

    April 16, 2024 - In 2023, only 6,000 (0.35%) out of 1.68 million cars registered in Georgia, were electric powered, says Petre Tsakadze, director of Tegeta Cars.

    According to Tsakadze, about 15,000 new cars were sold in Georgia in 2023, of which 550 were electric powered, which is 37% more than in 2022.

    BANKEBI DA FINANSEBI: “CRITICAL INCONSISTENCIES IDENTIFIED IN 24 CATERING FACILITIES – NFA”

    April 19, 2024 - In the 1st quarter, more than 600 catering facilities were checked countrywide, including up to 200 ones in Tbilisi, Georgian National Food Agency (NFA) reported.

    According to the Agency, these inspections identified critical inconsistencies in 24 catering facilities, 14 of which are located in Tbilisi.
