    IMF FORECASTS GEORGIA’S ECONOMY TO GROW BY 5.7% IN 2024

    April forecast of the IMF sees Georgia’s GDP growth in 2024 to make up 5.7%. In 2025, growth is projected at 5.2%.


    IN Q1, NUMBER OF INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS’ VISITS TO GEORGIA INCREASED BY 7.6% Y-O-Y

    In January-March, Georgia hosted 1.3 million visits of international travelers, Georgian National Tourism Administration reported. If compared to the corresponding period of 2023, the number has increased by 7.6%.


    IN Q1, PASSENGER CARS ACCOUNTED FOR 33.5% OF GEORGIA’S EXPORTS

    In the 1st quarter, passenger cars were still the leader in Georgia’s exports (actually, re-export is carried out). The country’s export of cars amounted to $443.8 million (year-on-year growth – 7.8%) and accounted for 33.5% of the total exports, Sakstat reported (estimation).


    IN Q1, GEORGIA’S IMPORT OF CARS DECREASED BY 31.3% Y-O-Y

    In 2023, cars were the leading article of Georgia’s commodity import, though their imports to Georgia decreased by 31.3% year-on-year. Import of this article amounted to $486.58 million, making up 14.4% of the total import, Sakstat reported.


    EU TO BACK NEW PROJECT AIMING IMPROVEMENT OF AIR QUALITY IN GEORGIA

    The Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture declared that a new project to improve air quality is being launched, being supported by the EU, the UN and the Austrian government and with participation of the Georgian government. The project budget makes up 4 million EUR.


    NEW PROJECT ON WASTE MANAGEMENT AND REDUCTION OF GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS WILL BE IMPLEMENTED IN GEORGIA WITH GERMAN SUPPORT

    The Georgian Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture declared that the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) is launching a new project in Georgia, named “Laboratory of the Circular City”.

    According to the Ministry, the project addresses waste management, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and introduction of reusable packaging systems.


    NEW TERMINAL TO BE BUILT AT MESTIA AIRPORT

    The Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development declared that within the competition announced for design of the new terminal in Mestia airport (mountainous region Svaneti), Green Studio was selected among 18 applicants.

    According to the Ministry, construction of the terminal will begin this year and will be completed in 2025.


    GEORGIAN PREMIER: SPORTS ARENA FOR 70,000 SPECTATORS TO BE BUILT IN TBILISI

    “We want to announce an important mega project” – a sports arena designed for 70,000 spectators will be built in Tbilisi, Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze declared at the government meeting today. The stadium will target 2 sports – football and rugby, he said.
