    PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF LOCAL ELECTIONS: RULING PARTY WON 55.74% OF PROPORTIONAL VOTING COUNTRYWIDE AND 53.06% – IN TBILISI, KALADZE BECAME MAYOR OF TBILISI

    According to preliminary data of Central Election Commission (CEC), ruling Georgian Dream won 55.74% of votes by proportional system on local elections of October 21 countrywide and 53.06% – in Tbilisi.

    National Movement won 17.08% of proportional votes countrywide and 17.66% – in Tbilisi, while European Georgia – 10.4% and 9.18%, respectively.


    GEORGIA TO DEVELOP NATIONAL MARINE STRATEGY

    Deputy Minister of Environment and Natural Resources Protection Maya Zavrashvili reported that the Ministry has to approve before 2022, in coordination with the government, national sea strategy.

    Besides, action program should be approved on achievement of good qualitative stability of the marine environment, which will be renewed then every 6 years.

    IN SEPTEMBER, IMPORT PRICE INDEX MADE UP 121.6%, EXPORT PRICE INDEX – 125%

    Sakstat reported that import price index in September made up 121.6% (the same month of 2016 – 100%).

    The index in mining industry and processing of pits made up 130%, in manufacturing industry – 120.7%.


    JANUARY-SEPTEMBER, GEORGIA’S EXPORT TO THE EU INCREASED BY 18.9% Y-O-Y, IMPORT FROM THE EU – BY 2.3%

    Sakstat reported that Georgia’s export to the EU countries in January-September made up $462 million, increasing by 30.4% year-on-year. In turn, import from the EU to Georgia amounted to $1.6 billion, increasing by 2.3%.


    IN JANUARY-SEPTEMBER, GEORGIA’S EXPORT TO THE CIS INCREASED BY 59% Y-O-E, IMPORT FROM THE CIS – BY 21%

    Sakstat reported that Georgia’s export to the CIS countries in January-September made up $785.4 million, increasing by 59% year-on-year. In turn, import from the CIS to Georgia amounted to $1.64 billion, increasing by 21%.


    GEORGIA PLANS DEEPENING OF COOPERATION WITH “NIPPON FOUNDATION”

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that Yohei Sasakawa, chairman of Japanese educational Nippon Foundation, pays visit to the country. At the meeting in the Ministry, the parties discussed prospects of cooperation.


    REGULATING COMMISSION ESTABLISHED NEW TARIFFS OF INTERCONNECTION FOR WHOLESALE MARKET

    National Communication Commission declared about setting of new tariffs of interconnection for corresponding segments of wholesale market of telephone service.

    Thus, for operators, having significant market power in mobile communications (MagtiCom, Geocell, Mobitel (Beeline)), after July 1, 2018, tariff of call initiation will make up 2.16 tetri (taxes exclusive), of call termination – 1.81 tetri, while after January 1, 2019 – 1.44 tetri and 0.75 tetri, respectively.


    CONSTRUCTION OF WATER RESERVOIR IN TEDZAMI GORGE TO START NEXT YEAR

    Agriculture Ministry declared that LLC Georgian Melioration will start in 2018 construction of new water reservoir in Tedzami Gorge (Kaspi municipality of Shida Kartli region).

    As the Ministry noted, the new water reservoir will solve problem of water supply for irrigation to 72 villages in total.

    FREQUENCY OF FLIGHTS BETWEEN GEORGIA AND KUWAIT TO INCREASE

    Kuwaiti air carrier Wataniya Airways increases frequency of flights to Georgia, Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported.

    In particular, since this winter navigation season (starts in last week of October), the airline will conduct regular flights between Al Kuwait and Tbilisi 3 times a week (on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays).


    WITHIN “UNIFIED AGROPROJECT”, LLC “CAUCASUS ORGANIC FRUITS” OPENED IN MTSKHETA

    Agriculture Ministry reported that within “Uniform Agroproject”, fruit-processing LLC Caucasus Organic Fruits was opened in Mtskheta (Mtskheta-Mtianeti region).

    Investments into the enterprise totaled to $1.7 million, including the state co-funding of $250,000 and preferential agrocredit of $500,000, the Ministry said.
