    President of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Giorgi Kadagidze declared that adoption of legal act is planned, which should regulate issue of non-core assets ownership by banks.

    “We will declare about this decision in the end of the month”, Kadagidze said at the meeting with developing companies today.

    Comparing to tariffs in different countries, Tavadze claims that “electricity tariff in Georgia is the cheapest in the whole Europe”.

    “Studies prove direct link between level of financial education and debt burden of the population”, said Kadagidze at international conference “Financial Education – Challenges and Prospects”, held today by NBG and German Saving Banks Foundation for International Development.

    Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) spread a statement today, calling Main Prosecutor Giorgi Badashvili to study issue of eviction of Laser-2 Tbilisi, official distributor of Sony in Georgia.

    “According to our information, there is no arbitration or court decision on eviction of Laser-2 Tbilisi, so execution police had no legal ground for eviction”, GYLA said in the statement.

    As the President’s press office said, the sides discussed enhancement of economic relations and prospects of cooperation development in fields of transport, energy and trade.

    Based on officials’ property declarations, TI Georgia (Georgian branch of Transparency International) declared that payments of loans, taken by several ministers and their deputies, account in some cases for half of their salaries, while sometimes even exceed them.

    The non-governmental organization points that several officials have taken banking loans shortly after their appointments.

    As the Minister said, construction of clothes factory, hi-tech plant for used motor oil recycling, construction materials’ manufacturing plant and fodder producing plant will be financed.

    Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission reported that Giorgi Benashvili has been appointed as a new special manager in KazTransGas-Tbilisi (Tbilisi gas distributor), with office term extended until end of the year.

    The Commission adopted respective amendments in own decision of 2009 at the meeting yesterday.

  14. ECONOMY MINISTER: “TAV GEORGIA” WILL CONDUCT RUNWAY’S OVERHAUL IN TBILISI AIRPORT WITHOUT EXTENSION OF OPERATION TERMS

    Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that TAV Georgia, operator of Tbilisi and Batumi airports, will conduct overhaul of runway in Tbilisi airport without extension of operation terms. Current runway is in safe condition, but does not comply with international standards, he noted.

    Former head of Tourism Department Giorgi Sigua says that financial failure of electronic music festival KaZantip is a result of resistance coming from the state and the church.

    According to Sigua, Georgian government promised KaZantip’s founder Nikita Marshunok to provide security, advertising support, development of infrastructure, lease of the land for 10 years, but only security was provided in fact, the newspaper says.
