    THE PARLIAMENT’S COMMITTEE ON BRANCH ECONOMY AND ECONOMIC POLICY SUPPORTED IN ADVANCE CANDIDACY OF NBG COUNCIL MEMBER

    Today, Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Branch Economy and Economic Policy considered candidacy of Papuna Lezhava for membership in the Council of National Bank of Georgia (NBG).

    The Committee said that despite consideration of MPs that answers, received from Lezhava, were not satisfactory, 6 of 8 members of the Committee nevertheless have supported his candidacy.

    IN Q3, UNEMPLOYMENT RATE GREW BY 0.1 PP Q-O-Q

    Sakstat reported that unemployment rate in Georgia in the 3rd quarter made up 12.2%. If compared with the 2nd quarter (12.1%), the rate has increased by 0.1 percentage points (pp).


    PRIME MINISTER: AGREEMENT ON ZEROING OF OBLIGATIONS OF 600,000 CITIZENS IS ALREADY REACHED

    The agreement on zeroing of obligations of 600,000 citizens, who are registered in so-called “black list” of debtors, is already reached, Georgia’s Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze declared at the news briefing today. To these citizens, total debt of about 1.5 billion lari will be nullified, he said.


    IN 9 MONTHS OF THIS YEAR, BANKS WROTE OFF CREDITS OF 298.2M LARI

    National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reported that in 9 months of this year, Georgian banking sector wrote off credits totaling to 298.2 million lari. The sum, written-off in the 3rd quarter, makes up 92.4 million lari.


    REGULATING COMMISSION CONSIDERED RULE OF INVESTMENTS’ ASSESSMENT

    Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulating Commission held recently a worker meeting, where rule of investments’ assessment was considered.

    According to the Commission, the meeting was attended by licensees of sectors of power industry and natural gas.


    MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND AGRICULTURE: WITHIN NEW PROGRAM OF USAID, LEADING AGROBUSINESSES WILL SHARE EXPERIENCE WITH BEGINNERS

    The new USAID-backed program will gather leading agribusinesses, which are partners of USAID, in order to share experience with the startup companies, Georgian Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture reported. Presentation of the program was held in Democratic Inclusiveness Center in Kutaisi.


    ECONOMY MINISTER: IN SUPPORT OF FURNITURE-PRODUCING COMPANIES, CREATION OF STAFF RETRAINING CENTER IS PLANNED

    Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that the Minister Giorgi Kobulia discussed with representatives of furniture-producing companies the problems in the sphere.

    At the meeting in Tbilisi, the Minister declared that the main obstacles, existing in this sphere, are qualification of labor force and educational programs.


    GEORGIAN CEMENT ASSOCIATION: FROM 36 TYPES OF CEMENT, ONLY 36% MEET THE EUROPEAN STANDARD

    Georgian Cement Association declared that its last (the 5th in row) test of 36 types of packed cement resulted in meeting of the European standard (EN197-1) by only 13, i.e. 36%. The Association conducts blind tests of packed cement, being sold on the local market, since 2017.


    TOURISM ADMINISTRATION: DESTINATION MANAGEMENT ORGANIZATION HAS BEEN CREATED IN SAMTSKHE-JAVAKHETI

    Georgian National Tourism Administration reported that according to its joint initiative with the USAID-funded project “Zrda”, destination management organization (DMO) will be founded in Samtskhe-Javakheti region.

    DMO aims assistance to creation of model of tourism development in the region and its promotion, notes the Administration said.

    IN ABASTUMANI, 5-STAR HOTEL TO BE BUILT

    Georgian Co-Investment Fund declared that its subsidiary, Georgian Tourism Development Fund, will built in Abastumani resort (Samtskhe-Javakheti region) a 5-star hotel of Autograph Collection (a luxury hotel chain, owned by Marriott International).

    According to the Fund, the hotel will feature “spa, swimming pool, restaurant, conference hall and roof top terrace with 360° aerial panorama”.
