    According to Gigi Koiava, general director of KazTransGaz-Tbilisi, Tbilisi gas distributor, the company is in negotiations with Russian Gazprom on decreasing gas tariff next year from declared $230 to $110 per 1,000 cubic m.

    Koiava hopes that Kazakh investors of the company will be able to persuade Gazprom’s management for benefits.

    Prime Minister Zurab Nogaideli has confirmed today that Georgia will continue to purchase gas from Russia next year. Later he specified that Russian supplies will be conducted “during few weeks” only, until Azerbaijani gas delivery will start.

    Koiava told a news conference today, increasing gas prices by Turkmenistan for Gazprom from $65 to $100 per 1,000 cubic m would probably affect prices at which the company delivers gas to various countries, including Georgia.

    The size of investment has prompted the KazTransGaz-Tbilisi to apply for a tariff increase to the National Communications on Energy Regulation, Koiava told journalists today.

    In particular, KazTransGaz-Tbilisi proposed that companies signed with it agreements under which a certain amount of funds will be deposited, while calculations will be made at the end of the month.

  11. JSC TBILGAZ SEES GAS LOSS OF 44.6% IN 2005

    According to the National Commission on Energy Regulation, JSC Tbilgaz, capital’s gas distributor, which was in the municipal ownership in 2005, purchased last year 489.6 million cubic m of gas.

    A gas loss in 2005 made up 218.3 million cubic meters, or 44.6, including technical losses – 45.6 million cubic meters.

    Chkonia’s duties will involve setting up a scheme of the development of a new model of the energy market – the financial operator of the electrosystem, according to recently made amendments to law.

    Giorgi Koiava, the director general of KazTransGaz-Tbilisi, says $4.5 million will be invested into the restoration of the gas distribution network, $6.5 million into the acquisition of gas meters and laboratories, $1.3 million into the overhaul and construction, while $2.3 million into company infrastructure.

    Moreover, Koiava says in order to localize losses old gas miters will be replaced by new communal meters.

    Six and a half million dollars will be invested in the rehabilitation of the capital’s gas distribution network by the end of the year, Sarik Sultangaliev, the director general of KazTransGaz, has told journalists in Tbilisi today. The Kazakh company acquired JSC Tbilgaz, Tbilisi gas distributor, for $12.5 million several days ago.
