    United Democrats and New Rights demanded today the disruption of “treacherous agreement with Gazprom”, drawn by the government of Georgia with the Russian gas giant Gazprom.

    The agreement on 25-year strategic cooperation between Georgia and JSC Gazprom has become effective this week.

  2. THE UNITED DISTRIBUTOR ENERGY COMPANY PROCEEDS TO REDUCE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY AND BEGINS REORGANIZATION

    The United Distributor Energy Company, which has begun to disconnect district branches-debtors since June, now begins reorganization.

    The management of the energy company aims to make reorganization during 2 months in four main branches – Rustavi, Kutaisi, Poti and Zugdidi and visit Western Georgia on July 25-27 to that end (where the three last branches are located).

  4. DENDROLOGICAL PARK IS TO BE DELIVERED TO THE CHINA EMBASSY IN TEMPORARY USAGE

    According to the Ministry of Economy, Industry and Trade, the Dendrological Park, located in Tbilisi, must be delivered to the China Embassy in temporary usage. The Chinese side is ready to pay $1 million.

  5. UNITED DISTRIBUTOR ENERGY COMPANY TOUGHENS ARRANGEMENTS TOWARDS NON-PAYERS

    Since July 14, the United Distributor Energy Company aims, together with the branches (now 37 district branches are disconnected), to reduce electricity supply to such debtor regions, as Imereti and Samegrelo as well. For these regions will be established 12-hour schedule for electricity supply (from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.).

  7. CONSULTING FIRM DVNK PROMISES TO ASSIST TO RESOLUTION OF UNITED DISTRIBUTOR COMPANY’S PROBLEM

    The Consulting Company Damenia, Varshalomidze, Nogaideli and Kavtaradze (DVNK) is elected by USAID as the consultant of the United Distributor Energy Company, which has been controlled since May of the current year by the PA Consulting Group (the contractor of USAID).

    The attraction of the consultant, aims to make the decisions of the energy company’s leadership more clearly for the society, declared today at the press conference Din White, the representative of PA Consulting Group.

    The Tbilisi air plant has finished assembling two initial 5-seat planes, Zurab Seskuria, LLC Tbilaviamsheni director for foreign economic relations, told Sarke.

    Seskuria said if flight tests would go well and the plant would be granted a certificate it could start up the full-scale production roughly next year.

  10. THE GOVERNMENT CONSIDERS PROBLEMS OF THE BRITISH AND TURKISH AIR COMPANIES

    Georgian President Eduard Shevardnadze today demanded from Zurab Chankotadze, head of the air administration, to resolve the problems with the British Mediterranean Airways and Turkish Airlines and warned him that otherwise he would be dismissed.

    The two air companies have not received the flight permits (on flights to Tbilisi) in the summer period due to the unsettled normative base in Georgia and the argument over taxes, which remains to be solved.

  11. FINANCIAL AND TAX COMMITTEES DO NOT LIKE TAX AMENDMENTS OF FINANCE MINISTRY

    The Financial and Budgetary Committee and Committee on Taxes and Revenues of Parliament negatively evaluated the package tax amendments introduced by the Finance Ministry at a joint meeting today.

    David Salaridze, chairman of the Tax Committee, says the committee does not support the proposals but agrees to introduce them to the plenary session of Parliament, due to the demand of the IMF.

  12. THE VOLUME OF NOT RECEIVED GRANTS MAY REACH 80M LARI BY THE END OF THE YEAR, SAY EXPERTS

    The volume of grants the budget has not received may reach 80-81 million Lari, say experts of the consulting company Damenia, Varshalomidze, Nogaideli, Kavtaradze (Zurab Nogaideli, former finance minister).

    Experts say that for the past five months the budget has received only 8.59 million lari, or 22% of a half-year plan and 9% of the annual plan of 95.4 million lari.

    Information has spread that David Galegashvili, current deputy chairman of the Customs Department, is going to be appointed Deputy Finance Minister.

    “The question has been in discussion for two weeks, but there is no official order”, First Deputy Finance Minister Zurab Soselia told Sarke.

    The Branch Economic Committee considered and approved today draft changes to the Tax Code, which exempt teachers from the income tax. The draft has been launched by the Movement for Democratic Reforms.

    The Branchwise Economic Comittee today demanded from the Ministry of Fuel and Energy to introduce the concept of energy policy in one week.

    Demur Giorkhelidze, the chairman of the committee, said the concept must be confirmed until the spring session of Parliament finishes.

    At today’s press conference Shalva Natelashvili, the Laborists’s leader said, that the Citizens’ Union (CU), that had been supposed decayed, restored.   20. LEADER OF UNITED DEMOCRATS SPEAKS ABOUT CATASTROPHIC SITUATION WITH BUDGET PERFORMANCE

    As the leader of the United Democrats Zurab Zhvania declared today on press conference, it is being formed “catastrophic situation” with the budget performance. According to him, the gap in the budget performance has already composed 42 million Lari for 4 months of the current year, and to the end of the year can reach 250 million.
