  2. BUDGET-2001: A STEP FORWARD OR BACK

    Basic parameters and structure changes in the draft budget-2001 proposed by the Finance Minister caused a sharp dispute. Basically, the dispute concerned the second question (changes), whereas, as the ex-Economic Minister, Lado Papava noted in the interview with Rezonansi, the main parameters of the budget is far of the budget, it is not even a budget draft.

  3. PENSIONERS OF FORCE BODIES HELD AN ACTION IN FRONT OF THE PARLIAMENT’S BUILDING TODAY

    As Zurab Galdava, the chairman of the Union of Pensioners and Handicapped Persons of the Georgian Force Bodies noted during his interview with Sarke, the action participants have not received pensions for 5 months in 1998, 4 months in 1999 and 2 months in 2000. The state owes 8 million Lari to the Interior Ministry pensioners only.

  4. POLISH GOVERNMENT DELEGATION ARRIVING IN GEORGIA TONIGHT

    On September 6 the head of the delegation, the first vice-premier of Poland Janush Schteinchoff will meet the State Minister of Georgia Giorgi Arsenishvili and the Chairman of the Parliament Zurab Zhvania. The same day, the members of the Polish delegation, the Deputy Economics Minister Bernard Blashchik, Deputy Finance Minister Kshishtoph Ners and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture Robert Gmirek will meet accordingly with Georgian Minister of Economics, Industry and Trade Vano Chkhartishvili, the Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli and the Minister of Agriculture and Food David Kirvalidze.

  5. FRANCE IS INTERESTED IN WINEGROWING POTENTIAL OF GEORGIA

    On September 10-14 the senators’ delegation of Ionne department of Burgundy (France), under the supervision of the chairman of the General council of Ionne Henry de Renkour, will visit Georgia. According to the Foreign Ministry, they have planned to hold a meeting with the Chairman of Parliament Zurab Zhvania, State Minister Giorgi Arsenishvili and the Foreign Minister Irakli Menagarishvili.

  6. RESTRUCTURING OF A GEORGIAN DEBT WILL BE ONE OF THE KEY QUESTIONS AT THE NEGOTIATIONS WITH TURKMENISTAN

    As Sarke has been informed at the Public Relations Department of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia, this is not about amortization of even the part of $348-million indebtedness and the Georgian delegation intends to raise a question on its restructuring only.

    According to the State Office, the Georgian side suggests to continue discharging of the debt by supplying its production to Ashkhabad.

  7. PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEES HAVE DISCUSSED KEY PARAMETERS OF THE BUDGET-2001

    As it has been informed at the discussion held today, the expenditure part of the next year budget will make up 1.24 billion Lari, the revenue part – 1.15 billion. According to the forecast the inflation rate is 7-7.5%.

  8. GEORGIAN DAY HELD AT EXPO-2000 ON AUGUST 29

    According to the press service of the Foreign Ministry of Georgia, works on projecting the exhibition stand in Georgia, which opened today, was funded by the German side from the fund of 100 million DEM. This fund was specially created by the German government for assisting the developing countries and countries with transitional economies to participate in the exhibition.

  9. GEORGIAN DELEGATION WILL LEAVE FOR TURKMENISTAN ON SEPTEMBER 1

    According to the State Office, the visit of the Georgian government delegation, headed by the State Minister Giorgi Arsenishvili will last one day. The sides will consider a number of economic issues, including restructuring of Georgia’s indebtedness of around $350 million towards Turkmenistan, for the natural gas delivered from there.

  10. NEGOTIATIONS ON RESTRUCTURING GEORGIA’S DEBT TO RUSSIA WILL BE CONTINUED IN OCTOBER

    While commenting the recent visit of the Finance Minister of Georgia Zurab Nogaideli to Moscow, the representatives of the Ministry’s press-center declared that this was “a usual working meeting”. As it has been already noted, the sides have not adopted concrete decisions during the meeting but reached an agreement on the continuation of negotiations in October.

  11. QUESTION ON GEORGIA’S DEBT OF TURKMENISTAN WILL BE DISCUSSED AFTER FINISHING SIMILAR NEGOTIATIONS IN MOSCOW

    According to the State Office, the visit of the Georgian State Minister Giorgi Arsenishvili to Turkmenistan, due to be held today, during which he was going to consider the question concerning restructuring of the debt for the Turkmenistan gas, is postponed to the end of the similar negotiations being held with the Russian side. Zurab Nogaideli, whose visit started yesterday, is discussing the question on the Russian debt restructuring.

  12. PRESIDENT’S REPRESENTATIVE IN IMERETI REGION APPLIED TO THE FINANCE MINISTRY FOR TRANSFERS

    The letter of the President’s representative in Imereti region Teimuraz Shashiashvili addressed to the Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli noted the grave situation in the region. According to him, the Finance Ministry is to allocate an additional monthly transfer of 540,800 Lari to the education sphere.

  13. GEORGIA CELEBRATING 5TH ANNIVERSARY OF ADOPTION OF THE CONSTITUTION

In Turkmenistan, the Georgian delegation will hold the negotiations on restructuring of the indebtedness of $350 million for the Turkmenistan gas delivered to Georgia.

  15. ARDZINBA HAS CUT SHORT HIS VACATION

    The President of the self-proclaimed Republic of Abkhazia returned to Sukhumi in connection of murdering Zurab Achba on August 15. He held the emergency session of the Security Council during which he called for the law enforcement bodies to find criminals in a short period.

  16. ZURAB ACHBA MURDERED IN SUKHUMI

    The former deputy of the separatists’ parliament was shot dead by his own house from the car passing by on August 15. 49-year-old Zurab Achba, who was the vice-chairman of the leading organization of Abkhaz separatists Aidgilara in 1990-1992, had critical attitude to the policy of Vladislav Ardzinba.

  17. ON AUGUST 9 VISIT OF ZURAB ZHVANIA TO PEKING IS BEGINNING

    During 6-days visit, the Chairman of Georgian Parliament intends to consider questions of recessing partnership between these two countries and widening interparliamental contacts. The visit will be held on the invitation of People’s representative’s assembly of China.

  18. A STEP TOWARDS TASK-BASED BUDGET

    The government having heard Finance Minister’s preliminary draft of the budget-2001 last week, president Shevardnadze announced in his traditional interview on the national radio the country will have a “strong budget” in 2001. The main principle in planning government spending next year is to consider need priorities, which strangely enough is a new practice in Georgia, as state financing had been assigned to different state agencies, not tasks.

  20. ON AUGUST 7-11 AMBASSADOR OF RUMANIA IN OSCE WILL VISIT GEORGIA

    Liviu Bota plans to get aquainted with the situation in Georgia and the process of conflict settlement. He will pay a special attention to OSCE monitoring of situation at the Chechen part of Georgian-Russian border.
