    Today, the Parliament has approved Zurab Adeishvili on the post of Chairman of the Committee for Juridical Issues, Legality and Administrative Reforms. 127 MPs have voted and 57 have been against.

    The Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli, who had returned from France after negotiations with the Paris Club of creditors, made a report at the financial-budgetary committee of the Parliament today. The foreign indebtedness of Georgia runs to around $2 billion at the moment.

  5. PARIS CLUB OF CREDITORS HAS DECIDED TO RESTRUCTURE GEORGIA’S FOREIGN DEBT

    The Paris Club decided to restructure the foreign debt of Georgia under the so-called Houston version during the talk, which came to an end on March 6. The Georgian Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli reported from Paris that this was an unprecedented case, as Georgia did not meet Huston’s conditions.

  6. BUDGET HAS NOT RECEIVED 7M LARI IN FEBRUARY

    The Minister of Tax Revenues Mikheil Machavariani said at the press-conference today, that this happened due to uncollected 4 million Lari from the Ajara Autonomous Republic and 3 million – from the customs service. He noted Ajara was to transfer 1 million in the near future and the rest of the sum – during this month.

    Today, having arrived in Tbilisi Judy O'Connor regional director for south Caucasia World Bank (WB) met with the president of the National Bank of Georgia Irakli Managadze.

    According to the National Bank (NB), O'Connor noted a successful monetary policy of Georgia and conducted by NB, within the framework of agreement with WB and IMF programs, permanent monitoring of commercial banks.

  17. GIOC STARTS OUT TRANSFERRING REVENUES TO THE BUDGET UNDER THE SCHEDULE AGREED WITH FINANCE MINISTRY

    The agreement between the Finance Ministry and the Georgian International Oil Corporation (GIOC) envisages transferring revenues to the state budget not by the expiration of the financial year but according to the schedules based on the previously defined revenues and expenditure. Besides, the corporation yields up its own dividends in favor of the budget for a certain period, which depends on the realization of the World Bank projects (WB) on energetics and social development.

  18. EVEN A SEQUESTERED BUDGET WAS NOT IMPLEMENTED

    As Zurab Nogaideli Finance Minister stated at the press-conference today, according to preliminary data the Treasury could not receive 130 million Lari. According to his information, in 2000 the investment projects by the sum of 117 million Lari have not been implemented by the World Bank (WB).

    The Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli evaluates the consent to ratify "a zero version", envisaging rejection of the share in the USSR property by Georgia, as "a pragmatic decision". As the Minister declared today, if Georgia lets itself in the financial argument with Russia, it may get its due assets of the USSR in 15-20 years.

  20. PARLIAMENT HAS ADOPTED AN ALTERNATIVE VERSION OF TAX ASSESSMENT ON THE TOBACCO PRODUCTION

    Today, the extraordinary session of the Parliament considered the question over the change of the tax assessment regime on the tobacco production. The Finance Minister Zurab Nogaideli was for the maintenance of the previous regime - 0.4 Lari on 1 packet of filter-tipped cigarettes and 0.3 Lari on 1 packed of non-filter cigarettes.
