1. THE GOVERNMENT: “MICROSOFT” TO EQUIP 32 SCHOOLS IN GEORGIA WITH WIFI TECHNOLOGY FREE OF CHARGE IN 2016-2017

   The government declared that Microsoft will equip free of charge 32 schools of Georgia with WiFi technology during academic year 2016-2017.

   Microsoft signed respective memorandum with Georgia’s Ministry of Education and Science.

2. ECONOMY MINISTRY: “ISEKO” LAUNCHED NEW PRODUCTION LINE

   Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development reported that LLC Iseko (steel pipes manufacturing) has launched new production line within “Produce in Georgia” state program.

   According to the Ministry, Iseko has invested about 3 million lari and hired about 30 new workers for its new manufacturing direction.

3. NBG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: WE SHOULD EVOKE INTEREST TO CULTURE OF SAVINGS FROM THE EARLY AGE OF OUR FUTURE GENERATION

   “We should evoke interest to culture of savings from the early age of our future generation, this (…) is of vital importance for financial education and excludes problems in this field in future”, executive director of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) Giorgi Melashvili declared.

   Events, dedicated to World Savings Day, which taken start in Georgia today, will last until November 5.

4. THE GOVERNMENT: GEORGIA AND AZERBAIJAN DISCUSSED EXPANSION OF CURRENT ECONOMIC CORRIDORS AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW ONES

   Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili met with Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev in Tbilisi today, administration of Georgian government reported.

   According to the administration, “Parties discussed expansion of existing economic corridors and prospects of new ones’ development, which will support growth of freight turnover”.

5. THE GOVERNMENT: DESIGNING OF AERODROME IN OMALO VILLAGE OF AKHMETA MUNICIPALITY BEGINS

   The government declared that designing of aerodrome in Omalo village of Akhmeta municipality (mountainous area Tusheti in the north of Kakheti region) is to be launched.

   During consideration of the mentioned issue at the government meeting today, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili expressed hope that construction of runway and airport in Omalo would be finished in near future, administration of the government said.

6. THE GOVERNMENT: EU TO ALLOCATE GRANT OF 30M EUR FOR GEORGIA’S PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION REFORM

   EU will allocate grant of 30 million EUR for Georgia’s reform of public administration, Georgian government announced.

   Details of the grant agreement will be disclosed at the briefing of Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili and the EU ambassador to Georgia Janos Herman, scheduled on October 28.

7. PRIME MINISTER: CONSOLIDATION OF ECONOMIC BLOC MINISTRIES IS NOT PLANNED

   Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that “consolidation of ministries from economic bloc is not planned”. “However, there will be minor changes”, he added.

8. AGRICULTURE MINISTRY: GEORGIAN WINE CULTURE AND HISTORY TO BE TAUGHT AT POLAND WINE ACADEMY SCHOOL

   Georgian Agriculture Ministry announced that Georgian wine culture and history will be taught at Wine Academy School of Poland. According to the Ministry, Georgian National Wine Agency and Polish Viticulture Development Fund (Galicja Vitis) signed respective memorandum in Tbilisi.

9. GEORGIAN PREMIER AND REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF “BP” CONSIDERED ONGOING PROJECTS IN GEORGIA

   Today, Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has met with Gordon Birrell, regional director of BP for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. As administration of Georgia’s government said, the parties discussed projects, implemented in Georgia by BP.

10. THE GOVERNMENT: WB SUPPORTS 4-POINT REFORM PLAN OF GEORGIA’S GOVERNMENT

    World Bank is pledging support in implementation of 4-point reform plan of Georgian government, administration of the government declared.

    That support was marked by World Bank’s regional director in South Caucasus Mercy Tembon at the meeting with Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili.

11. Tabula: “10.5-BILLION BUDGET IS EXPECTED TO INCREASE MORE, WHILE DEFICIT WILL EXCEED 3%”

    Draft budget-2017 envisages governmental spending of 10.5 billion lari, which exceeds by 410 million lari same showing of the current year’s budget.

    Despite this growth, the budget does not reflect pledges of Georgian Dream, which will be included in the updated version of the budget, according to the Finance Ministry, the magazine reports.

12. THE GOVERNMENT: $680M TO BE SPEND FOR 8 PROJECTS IN TBILISI, GURIA, AJARA AND SAMEGRELO

    Tourism Development Fund, established by Georgian Co-Investment Fund, will implement 8 projects in Tbilisi, Guria, Ajara and Samegrelo, having total cost of $680 million, the government declared.

    “Out of this sum, 259 million lari has been already invested”, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili pointed at the new fund’s presentation, held in Tbilisi today.

13. GOVERNMENT: GEORGIA STARTS MANUFACTURING OF MODERN ELECTRIC LOCOMOTIVES

    The government declared that the plant will be built in Tbilisi, which will manufacture modern rolling stocks. For this purpose, Georgian Railway and Georgian-Chinese company signed respective agreement in Tbilisi today.

15. THE GOVERNMENT: BIATHLON TRACK OF THE OLYMPIC STANDARDS WILL BE ARRANGED IN BAKURIANI

    Designing of biathlon track in ski resort Bakuriani, complying with Olympic standards, are starting in cooperation with French company Abest.

    While reporting on this at the government meeting today, Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that 796,500 lari will be allocated for the designing works.

16. THE GOVERNMENT: “GAZELLE FUND” AND “SCHULZE GLOBAL INVESTMENTS” ENTER GEORGIA

    The matter concerns Canadian Gazelle Fund and the US investment group Schulze Global Investments.

17. THE GOVERNMENT: IMPLEMENTATION OF ANAKLIA PORT PROJECT TO START

    At the meeting today, the government considered an investment agreement, to be signed with Anaklia Development Consortium.

    Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili declared that the works will start until end of the year, meaning that in 3 years the first component will be finished and the port will became operational.

    According to Global Competitiveness Report 2016-2017, released by World Economic Forum, Georgia’s ranking has improved by 7 positions since previous assessment, the government said. Now, the country is on the 59^th position among 138 countries of the Index.

    5-star hotel Euphoria (415 rooms) was opened in Batumi today. As Ajara government noted, this is the first “all inclusive” hotel in Georgia.

    Giorgi Kepuladze, head of non-governmental organization Society and Banks, pointed that duty of National Bank of Georgia (NBG) “is to secure financial stability; besides, it should soften sharp fluctuations of currency rate, if they are caused by transient factors”. “Probably, interventions, made by NBG during last week, aimed at this very target”, he noted.
